SUN 26 BIG HILLS

Early Start this week 7.30am IN THE CITY and 8am @ the TOWER HOTEL. Only 7 more weeks till Amy’s Ride so this week we are headed for the hills with the Norton’s TT last week, a good warm up to what is an easier then it looks ride to Hahndorf. To clench the thirst of the mountain goats amongst us we've included a departure from the usual Hahndorf ride to include the Forest Range climb. This is a killer and for those with little climbing in the legs this season should avoid by way of the Range Rd short cut from Basket Range to Carey Gully, and skip the Jones Rd Route from Balhannah to Hahndorf taking the Amberside Rd route. We'll nominate two group leaders, one for each route to make sure all don't get lost. Will post map my ride maps when complete. FS - all complaints should be directed to Brian!

BiG HiLLS NORTONS, HAHNDORF - 70/80km
Meet @ 7.30 in the city OR 8pm @ the Tower Hotel, Nortons climb, Ashton, Basket Range. Short option: Range Rd, Carey Gully, Greenhill Rd - Balhannah, Amberside Rd. Long option:Forest Range, Deviation Rd, Greenhill Rd, Balhannah, Jones Rd. Handorf Bakery for coffee. River Rd, Aldgate Valley Rd, Sterling, Old Freeway Home.

VIC PARK 19/09

Photos by KN see more @ Flickr

The day started in nervous sun shine and ended in a cloud of BG glory! With a record Six BG competing in two grades. Brian, Gav and Andrew, lined up in E's for their first taste of racing. Brian took what he described as the Gates-e route to the line, sitting in for most of the race to finishing third.

In C's Team BG fielded a strong line up with Homburg, Gates-e and my self. The Burg performed his Domestique role with honour maintaining a swift pace, working hard on the front through out the race and dragging the break away back to with in striking distance on the final lap. Mike picked up my wheel as planed and we hit the final corner at the front of the pack and nailed the last corner to start the sprint catching the break half way down the final stretch leaving the pack in our wake taking a clear one - two for the Bastardi, with Gates second after my lead out never ended.

It's also worth mentioning the A grade race which was a spectacular display of cycling with some savage pace at the front and Jongewaard taking a dominating win, seemingly playing with the field in multiple breaks and surges taking the win from a final break of three in a tight sprint! A medal of courage should go to my man Ben Hoagie, and his attempt to hold the wheel of Jongewaard, crossing to the break - bad luck benny you nearly caught that train but it left the station with out ya!

Stay tuned for more Crit Dates and help get behind local racing and see some great cycling action live! FS

THU NIGHT RIDE

A few BG have been piloting a new Thur Ride format. Vic Park is a great place for a casual training ride after work, with no traffic, no stop lights plus quick and easy to get too for most. The wide surface, with no potholes, is also conducive to having a good yarn too, as you don't have to be on edge looking out for death.

The beauty of riding laps is, every one can ride there own pace and the group seemed to regroup often while small groups pushed along at there own pace. The venue is also great for doing interval training with hot laps (90-100% effort or sprints down the straight) followed by a cool down lap (60-70%).

BG THUR RIDE - VICTORIA PARK
Meet 5.45 @ Vic Park, Doing laps anti clockwise.

At the moment you get 45min in before the light fades. This is long enough to get a solid work out in of non- stop pedalling, and will have you home in time for dinner! Cheers, Brian, Gav, Steve. FS

SUN RIDE - 12 SEP

This sunday there are three ride options, with the opening of the Northern expressway giving cyclist a 2 unique opportunity to ride the expressway before it opens. If you hold a Cycling Australia licence there is a handicap race, and for everyone there is a community ride along the expressway. This is one of Australia's smoothest roads to date and this maybe a unique opportunity to ride this stretch of road that may not happen again. A normal BG ride will still happen form the city @8am.

SAT CRITS

It would be great to see the BG's and their families out on Saturday for a season premiere picnic lunch.

For now, the weather forecast isn't looking great so don't forget to bring along your umbrella, rain jacket, rug to keep warm, as well as chairs and some food!

For those riding on Saturday - be sure to bring along plenty of warm clothes for after the race. There is plenty of parking along Wakefield Road close to the Britannia round-a-bout.

See you there,
Kate
