Sunday in the No Excuses Club ride and the BG Anniversary.

NO EXCUSES CLUB RIDE

SUNDAY JULY  THE 3rd
IS THE NO EXCUSES  BG Club Ride

and the anniversary of the first BG ride.

Numbers have been fantastic for winter as the weather has been cold but good for cycling.  Its TDF time so make the effort, struggle out of bed this Sunday, get the thermals out of the bottom drawer and come out on the no excuses ride as there will be lots of TDF discussions at the coffee stop.

Meeting Time is 8:00 am at the City.

The ride is City-Port Road-Outer Harbor-Henley-Glenelg-Comfort Inn for Coffee.

TDF Fantasy Teams

Sunday Ride - Hallett Cove

All

We have had a few changes lately and ended up doing this weeks ride last week.

Hence this weeks ride has been changed to

 Hallett Cove via Anzacy Hwy

Meet in the City at 8:00am

The weather does not look good enough at this point to consider Hills.

A Helmet developed by Adelaide Uni gives a 2 metre advantage in a bunch sprint.

I suspect it may look something like this

Sunday Ride Report

Sunday was another spectacular winters day cold but the sun was shinning and there was a complete absence of wind. We had a good turnout taking in the excellent riding conditions Given we had done a Hills Ride the week before a long beach ride was chosen. Anzac Highway to Outer harbor and back to Glenelg for coffee.

We welcomed Geoff back from Holiday (he did ride the no excuses ride) and Michael R who had been sick. The presence of Hugh, Sam and David H meant a fast ride. This was compounded by Louis now having moved to adult gearing. This has two impacts as viewed from the back of the BG peleton. He is both extremely rapid and offers absolutely no shelter from the wind. Facts that had Mike wanting to buy him a feed of KFC.

Suffice to say I was not in contact for the sprints but am advised Louis won Outer Harbor and  West Lakes (Southern end) sprints.

The sea was like glass and combined with the sunshine made for a great day. We tried a new place for Coffee. The Comfort Inn at Glenelg opposite the Buffalo. Quite good and definitely an option for the future.

Weather Call - Ride Report

Six BG gathered at the City for the "weather call hills" ride. When none of the people (you know who you are) who requested the "Hills in good weather change" arrived we thought we had mad a bit of a mistake. However one look at the Crakerjack Morning was enough to dispel any doubts.

For those of you curled up in bed it was cold but it was also bright sunshine, blue skies and  no wind. Given the numbers and the magnificant day it was decided to change the ride to the Hills face ride which we haven't done in many years.

We climbed up Montacute into the Morialta national park and into the shade making the already fresh morning just a bit crisper. Alf who had agreed to come up to where the climb got steep was locked in a titanic battle with a gent who was attempting his first ascent of Montacute. Think Contador v Froome just much slower with Brian playing the role of the entire Sky Team including the team car. Alf's just ground him down meter by meter. His opponent cracked just before the ranger station. Job done Alf turned and headed home.

The rest of us climbed up Montacute into a absolutely spectacular morning in the Hills. There were lots of people and groups out. We kept together as we went over up and over Lofty and then descended down onto Sturt Valley road. The top section had been resurfaced into a perfect smooth bitumen. We turned and we confronted by Strada Bianca  Adesiva. "sticky gravel road". It was road underlay where the rain has soaked the top couple of centimeters. It was like riding through clag. We were in danger of being stopped dead still while still sitting upright on the bike this stuff was so sticky. Thankfully we all got through okay.

We descended down windy point and had coffee at Papparazi on Unley Road.

See You next week

Sunday Ride - meet in the City 8:00 am

All

Sundays weather forecast looks good for a possible hills ride. Dry and Calm.

Sunday 12 June

Summary
Min 6
Max 16
Mostly sunny.
Possible rainfall: 0 mm
Chance of any rain: 5%

Adelaide area

Mostly sunny. Light winds becoming northeasterly 15 to 20 km/h during the evening.

Saturday looks dry as well so this gives a option of Hills assuming the forecast is correct.

Meet in the City at 8:00 am

  • Weather Permitting, If the hills look okay the Hills ride will be Pain-Lives-Here
  • If not we will revert to the planned Beach via Anzac Hwy

Both are short rides planned to allow for the long weekend.

Cheers

They made No Excuses !!

Eight hard bastartdi's braved the elements on Sunday and went out for the Club beach ride. Phil has supplied photographic evidence.

I wasn't there having wussed out. A new coffee stop was trialed nearer the Henley "The Corner Store". Alf gives it a good report and it it gives a option if we wish to avoid Glenelg given the lack of cake at Esca.
