I trust everyone has been getting in sufficient kilometres to keep the waistlines in check...
We'll monitor the situation, and if any amendments to the ride are required, they will be posted here and on WhatsApp on Saturday evening. Please check back before you set the alarm on Saturday night, as one option if the weather is extreme may be to bring forward our start time to 7.00am.

ROUTE CHANGE - SUNDAYS RIDE IS BEACH - HALLETT COVE TO OUTER HARBOUR
Good Morning All
A CFS advisory issued at 0300 on 21 December 2019, indicates that a watch and act for the Cuddle Creek fire covers a portion of our route for tomorrow.
http://data.eso.sa.gov.au/prod/cfs/criimson/1345241.0003677.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
The fire is uncontrolled and expected to burn for several days.
We have therefore made an early call to modify our route.
The ride will now be a beach ride, to Hallett Cove, then to Glenelg for coffee with a return via Outer Harbour.
Meet in the city at 7.30am.
DO NOT meet at the Tower at 8.00am.
See you tomorrow.

SUNDAY IS THE NO EXCUSES CLUB RIDE REBOOT
This Sunday is the No Excuses Club Ride.
It wasn't originally planned to be, however, two weeks ago, the original no excuses club ride got utterly rained out, with, we believe, no takers at all.
The Route: City, Port Rd, Outer Harbor, Glenelg for Coffee.
https://www.strava.com/routes/22700330
We can confirm that climbing will not exceed 150 metres.
Meet in the City at 7:30 am.
See you Sunday - NO Excuses.
Now speaking of no excuses, here comes an excuse. I won't be there. I will be riding Sunday, but in a slightly different location. I'll tell you all about it the following week. This being said, I'm sure you'll be just fine without me...
Have a great weekend.

RIDE REPORT - BG CHRISTMAS LUNCH CUDLEE CREEK ROLL
So it would appear we may have discovered a gem of a new route.
The reverse Cudlee with a PLH starter, Lenswood detour and a Corkscrew return, may now be alternated with the regular Gorge and back Cudlee option.
A Solid group of BG set out from the Tower, up Norton and through the ranges. By the time we arrived a Deviation Road, it was clear that today would be a hot one. We continued on to Lenswood, and on arrival at the cold stores, noted that we only had 13 minutes to make it to Cudlee Creek, which seemed most unlikely. 13 minutes it was not, by 25 minutes it was, so we rolled into the Cudlee Cafe only 10 minutes behind schedule.
After a 15 minute wait in line for service, coffees appeared quite rapidly, and we left only 10-12 minutes behind time. There was much shakiness about Corkscrew, but as we discovered, this route has multiple escapes, with the option to proceed straight down the gorge. In the end, Hugh, Gui, Brian, Warwick and myself tackled Corkscrew, which hasn't got any less painful since last time. Given the temperature was pushing the high thirties by this time, it was an easy decision at the top to go down Montecute rather than up.
We rolled down, and wended our way back along Stradbroke and Glen Stuart Roads, followed by a gentle roll down to the tower. At the pub the crew, including Geoff and Mike who took the Gorge escape were joined by Aldo, Steve B, Warren and Nene.
Many burgers and schnitzels, together with quite a few beers, undid much of the hard work.
With only a few weeks to go of the year, I wish all BG and your families a safe and happy Christmas and New Year break. Take care, stay safe and get out with the crew on Sunday mornings.

It's that time of the year lads. Yuletide joy!!!
In advance of too much festive cheer, it time for a good hit out in the hills. The schedule says Cudlee Creek, but we are going to turn it up, by doing the long Cudlee return route in reverse. It's a bit of PLH to get us in the mood for a burger and beer over lunch.

In simple terms it is City, Tower, Norton, Ashton, The Ranges, Lenswood, Coldstore Road, Fox Creek Road to Cudlee Creek. Return is via the Gorge, Corkscrew, Montacute, Mable Hill, then roll down Nortons to the hotel.
Meet in the city at 7.30am.
Meet at the Tower at 8.00am.

YET ANOTHER MAN DOWN
Hi All.
Unfortunately, I've got to report yet another man down. We are really not having a good run at the moment.
Graham Hopkins came of his mountain bike on the Blue Derby tracks in Tasmania last Friday. He has reasonably significant injuries to his left arm and shoulder. He is now back in Adelaide, and booked in for surgery next week, which will be followed by about 3 months of rehab.
I'm sure all BG will join me in wishing Graham a speedy recovery.

MAN DOWN
Unfortunately I have to report another man down.
Phil Pullinger was collected by an 'old guy in a ute' who turned in front of him while we was cycling in the north eastern suburbs last Thursday. Phil was travelling around 35 in a straight line, old mate (clearly in a rush to Specsavers) turns out in front of him, and despite Phil's best avoiding action, he collected the tray and fell onto his shoulder.
He has a grade three AC joint injury to his right shoulder, which looks likely to require surgery to correct.
We've had a run of signficant injuries in recent months, with a common theme of drivers failing to use their eyes.
I'm sure all of BG and friends will join me in wishing Phil a speedy recovery and being back on the bike soon.

SUNDAY IS OUTER HARBOUR VIA ANZAC HIGHWAY
So the Meadows ride last Sunday was magnificent....
Five BG's set out in beautiful weather, most unlike the normal drizzle we get on our signature ride. At a moderate pace to keep the group together, we did the business at the Meadows bakery before a brisk, tailwind assisted return along Battunga Road, through Echunga and Mylor. Following Ayres Hill Road, Brian remarked 'lets go home via Outer Harbour'...
Anyway, enough of the ride report.
Sunday its beach time again, via ANZAC Highway to Outer Harbour, before returning for coffee at Glenelg.
Weather looks good.

SUNDAY IS PAIN LIVES HERE
This Sunday was supposed to be the once-rescheduled-already Meadows Loop. However, we've had great numbers out the last two weeks, and we know the Meadows Loop sometimes scares people away. Really, however, it's not that bad..
However, your acting convenor, and acting deputy convenor are nice guys, so we have swapped Meadows out, again for another fortnight.
So no excuses, eh...
We haven't done the Pain Series loops in quite a while, cos you know winter and stuff. So Sunday, pain it is. If you have been fearing the hills, toughen up.
However, as always, there is an option for everyone.

MAN DOWN
Unfortunately, Aldo was collected by a car yesterday morning, whilst out on a ride with work colleagues.
Heading up Norton Summit, Aldo was hit by a car turning right out of Glen Stuart Road. He rolled across the bonnet of the car, and after a brief 'ride' was deposited on the ground.
He took the brunt of the impact on his left leg, and was taken to the RAH by his wife, where a break to his left tibia was diagnosed. He'll be having surgery today, will be home in a couple of days, bearing no weight for a couple of weeks, followed by four more weeks of recovery, and then another six or so weeks of rehab, so he will be off the bike for some time.
Thankfully, he doesn't appear to have an other injuries.
His bike (only a few months old) is still to be inspected, and it's fate is unknown at this time.
The driver claims no to have seen him, which generally means he wasn't looking.

Sunday Ride - Winters last kick
This week was meant to be the first ride back into the Hills after winter. I have holding off posting Sundays ride in the vain hope that the weather forecast might improve. Instead it has gotten worse.
So instead of a Hills ride we will do a Beach ride by consensus in the Morning:
Meet in the City at 8:00 am
If the weather gives us a window we may do close hills.
The weather and all the other things in life have been conspiring against us getting good numbers out. Let's see if we can get the BG's rebooted for the new season. If you have a mate that might like to ride please invite them along.

Note that I've made Brian DS, so all blame for failure is ascribed to him.

Sunday Ride - End of the Winter Schedule - Outer Harbor via Anzac Highway
This Sunday is the last ride on the winter schedule. It's scheduled as a road less traveled and so given the weather report we will try to do last weeks ride which is definitely less traveled.
Route: Outer Harbor via Anzac Highway
Meet in the City at 8:00pm
I know it doesn't feel like it but next Sunday is the first day of Spring and is the No Excuses Club ride so you have two beach rides before we start doing hills. Time to come out of hibernation and get training.
I have already been swooped by my first magpie of Spring.
Saturday Rides
We are going to start doing Saturday morning rides to give people some options to get fit. These will be organised on Whatsapp and will be of the short, sharp and shiny variety. The initial aim will be rides that get us homeward bound by 10 am and are accessible to help build fitness. Hence they will be set more by consensus than by planning.
If you are not on Whatsapp please download the application and send Michael, Brian or Myself your phone number and we will join you to the chat.
NCC Racing
Two big NCC events coming up, back to back weekends. This Sunday is the Last NCC Winter Criterium before summer crits - followed by the Macclesfield Classic road race to celebrate the first day of spring to following weekend. Both events catering for graded Juniors, Womens and Mens racing.
Not long to the CSA Super Series. Train to race, or better still, race to train. Get your team together, get nominated, get racing.
Join the NCC facebook events for all updates. And see Entry boss for nominations and race details.
Brace your selves winter is almost over. So much racing coming up, get training you slackers

Sunday Ride - Outer Harbor via Anzac Highway
This Sundays Ride is Outer Harbor via Anzac Highway.
Last Sunday was a wash and the forecast is for rain this Sunday. Hopefully it will come a bit later in the day and we can get a ride in Sunday. Please monitor Whatsapp.
Meet in the City at 8:00am
Oh by the way someone in Dubai paid the most money ever paid for a bike for this. Have a look at the GCN Show. Its a shaft drive and despite appearances its a single gear. My high school engineering tells me a shaft drive is more efficient than a chain drive but surely not enough to warrant this setup.
I think we should email this guy the Bastardi "Your a D%$k" or "You need an upgrade" calculator (Time up Nortons in Seconds / Purchase Cost of Bike)

Sunday Ride - Hallett Cove
I am sitting here looking at the storm rage outside and posting Sundays ride. This weeks is Hallett Cove with some small hills to test the legs.
Monitor whatsapp as the weather is looking 50/50 for Sunday.
Meet in the City at 8:00 am
As for winter hibernation, too many crumpets, dark mornings etc. It came as a bit of a shock but we only have two rides left on the Winter Schedule and then a Club Ride before the necessity of scheduling sends us into spring training.
So get yourself ready for spring and as a wise Bastardi (Saggio Bastardo) once said "Pain is just the weakness leaving your body"

Sundays Ride - No Excuses
Sundays Ride is the no excuses Club ride. Numbers have been very disappointing lately even when the weather has been good so please make an effort to make it out.
The Weather for Sunday look excellent for cycling or just generally getting out
16℃ Mostly sunny. Light winds becoming northwesterly 15 to 20 km/h during the day
So the Weather isn't an excuse. Also bring a mate we are always welcoming.
See you Sunday.

Sunday Ride - Hallett Cove
Well as one of the back markers I can testify both to the effects of a crosswind and the feeling of trying to close a gap that never seems to to close. So I really feel for the riders on Stage 10. A little wind certainly shook up the TdF.
Anyway to Sunday's Ride, Hallett Cove via Anzac Highway
Meet in the City at 8:00am
Last week Geoff, Mike and I turned up after a Whatsapp discussion triggered by no rian on the radar. Unfortunately it was stealth rain and we called the ride off at Greenhill rd and went for coffee.
Tour Down Under
The Stages for this years TDU have been released.
https://tourdownunder.com.au/race/mens/stages
It looks like a excellent year for riding out from the city for viewing with only the Saturday stage looking a bit impractical to view by bike once it gets past Meadows. Stage 3 doubles back on itself and completes one of the Cudlee Creek loops in the opposite direction which took a bit of squinting and then looking at the point to point to figure out. However will be a great one to ride out and watch.
For those like me who use the Challenge tour as a bit of a fitness target. Its now back to the Friday stage and is fairly hard day in the saddle at 164km to Murray Bridge via Mannum with a shade under 1900m of climbing. KOM is at Prospect Hill.

Sunday Ride - Hallett Cove
This Sundays Ride is down to Hallett Cove. The weather is looking okay for a Beach ride at this point in time.
Meet in the City, Hindmarsh Square at 8:00 am
There will be lots to discuss as the Tour de France has been thrown into disarray with Froome crash. He hit a wall going downhill at speed.

This Sundays ride is the first of the Winter schedule and hence is a beach ride. Having done a work team ride in the Hill's on Tuesday I can testify that its cold in them there Hills.
- Sundays Ride is Outer Harbor via Anzac Highway
- Meet in the City at 8:00 am
One Rides |
However if you type "Queens Birthday Bicycle" into Mr Google you get some erm interesting results. However I couldn't go past the original single cover for Queens Bicycle race. Enjoy. For the young-uns a single was a plastic disc with two songs on it.

Sundays Ride - No Execuse
All
Sundays Ride is the No Excuses Club ride.
Meet at 8:00 am in the City

Partly cloudy. Slight (30%) chance of showers. Light winds becoming southeast to southwesterly 15 to 20 km/h during the day.
Winter is Here
That's my last chance to use a GOT reference and so I am taking it. This week marks the start of the winter schedule that runs from this Sunday through to end of August. During this period

Sunday Ride - Outer Harbor via Anzac Highway
This Sunday's ride is Outer Harbor via Anzac Highway. The days are getting shorter and so I have consulted the Druids and its time to move our official start time to 8:00 am. That said I am still riding in shorts from my midweek rides up Nortons so winter hasn't come yet.
Meeting Time 8:00 am in the City
Please look on WhatsApp for updates over the week.
