SUNDAY IS THE FULL MONTY (IT'S NOT THAT HARD...)

Righto team.

It's that time of year where you are about to eat more food than can be imagined, so lets do some pre-emptive calorie burns. We are a week behind on the program, so this week we are going to do a loop that we debuted just before Christmas 2019 and did again earlier this year, the reverse Cudlee Corker Monty (now known as the Full Monty).

Now before I hear any complaints, I was AGAIN thinking we could turn this into a psychopathic PLH pretzel, where after completing Monty, we do the ranges again for a regular PLH. Really, it's not that hard is it???

I mapped it on Strava to see that it wasn't so bad, and here it is:

Oh gorgeousness and gorgeousity, these she is in her 112km and 2416 metres of beauty.

Anyway, let's leave that for after Christmas. Aldo an I have decided we will start that one at 6.00am, so those only up for a regular PLH can then going us at Norton's at 8.30am.

Anyway, I digress.

So tomorrow let's do this bad boy instead:

Meet in the City at 7.30am.

Meet at the Tower at 8.00am.

Estimated arrival at Cudlee Creek at 10.00am and departure at 10.30am.

Back in Norwood at 12.00pm.

There are multiple bailout options, such as down the George (skipping Corkscrew and Montecute) and down Montecute (skipping up Montecute). So really, at it's easiest, it is only half a PLH with a short climb up the back of Fox Creek. Easy Pezy Lemon Squeezy.

See you Sunday.

Sunday Ride - Beach Ride

The TDF is over for another year so hopefully we are all catching up on some sleep. We will have to wait till Dan is out on a Sunday to get a full discussion of Slovenian cycling dominance. It’s the Å truklji (rolled dumplings) in my opinion.

Anyway, Sundays Ride is a Beach Ride slightly modified to account for the Bay to Birdwood leaving from West Beach.

Meet in the City at 7:30am

Route is Anzac Highway, Outer Harbor with Coffee at Henley, Home TBD.

SUNDAY IS ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN

Evening All

This Sunday is nominally a surf and turf, however the weather is, at this point, looking quite unpredictable.

On this basis, we will call it as an anything can happen, and meet in the city. If the weather looks good, we may continue with the original plan. If it is less favorable, we'll stay on the flats.

Meet in the City at 7.30am.

See you Sunday.

SUNDAY IS HALLETT COVE

 Good Evening All

I trust you have all appraised yourselves of the new ride guide, booking in your highlights for the year. Don't worry, you'll best tested on it soon.

This Sunday, we're heading to Hallett Cove.

Gui has decided that having on ear pierced by a magpie is insufficient, so can come back to see if he can get the other one done.

I won't be be there due to family commitments in the Barossa, and Aldo won't either for similar reasons.

No matter, we have appointed a new road captain:

Meet in the city at 7.30am.

Sunday Ride Program 2020/21

 All

Here is the Ride Guide for 2020 /21.

In general we have kept what works, tried to avoid the clangers and added some variety.

Coffee Stops

  • We have noted that a lot of our regular coffee stops especially in the Hills have been getting slower and fuller. We will be looking at branching out in search of quicker coffee and may be looking at City returns if the hills stops are too full.

Whats Changed

  • Not much
  • The Two Coffee stop ride has proved popular so we have tried to include more rides where this is an option
  • Christmas and New Years fall mid week so we have scheduled Beach rides for the relevant Sundays
  • Anything can happens are scheduled for the 5th Sunday of a month where that occurs or where a major event requires a bit of planning
  • Heritage round is scheduled for an early February beach ride.

The weather is looking a little iffy this Sunday. We will Schedule the ride as Outer Harbor via Anzac Highway. I will post an update on Saturday night and we will confirm on Whatsapp at 6:30am Sunday morning. We have been very lucky this year and seem to always have a window Sunday morning.

SUNDAY IS BEACH VIA ANZAC HIGHWAY

Good evening youse all.

Last week was a cracking ride. The weather was beautiful, so we lapped it up. Uraidla bakery even upped their game (a little bit). Four BG got their Grand Fondo for August.

My bike unfortunately copped some damage, and in currently in the shop with a front derailleur issue. Here is hoping I have it back by Sunday, and don’t have to try and do the ride on my mountain bike!!

The weather is a bit less certain for Sunday, but let’s bank on our luck continuing.

We’ll head to Outer Harbour viz ANZAC Highway.

Meet in the City at 8.00am.

See you all Sunday.

SUNDAY IS THE DOUBLE COFFEE SHORT PLH GLENELG ROLL

Weather is looking cracking for Sunday.

Mild with little wind.

Sweet.

On this basis, it’s time to head for the hills.

We’ll do the double coffee surfy turfy, with a short PLH followed by second coffee at Glenelg. The Uraidla bakery is on its last warning to produce coffee in reasonable time (read less than 45 mins). They would have been cut already, but their pork sausage rolls are totes amazeballs.

We’ll then head to Glenelg via Cross Road.

Read the times carefully please, as they differ for this ride.

  • Meet in the city at 7.30am.
  • Meet at the Tower at 8.00am.

See you all Sunday.

Sunday Ride and the Blog is back

Sundays ride will Beach via Anzac Highway

  • Meet in the City at 8:00am
  • Coffee will be at Glenelg

This is the ride that was cancelled last week.

The weather looks perfect 15 degrees and Light winds but we will still post at 6:30am Sunday Morning to double confirm.

The Blog is back and I will start to maintain it again from this week as we get back to hopefully a more standard Spring riding season.

PS: The Crows game is a 12:35 and so there is a express run back to the city for those lucky enough to win the raffle for a seat at the game. Yes I know the Crows will be thrashed but this is likely the only game I will see this year.

If you have a spare couple of hours this is the Zwift Virtual Beast Climb - Mt Ventoux (Seven Corkscrews) My legs still hurt

SUNDAY IS, WELL, SUNDAY...

Hi Everyone

It’s been a while. And, it has certainly been an adventure.

While things have headed in a positive direction here in South Australia, this isn’t over, and as we have seen, from both history and recent events, a good outcome can turn very bad, very quickly. Our economy has obviously been smashed, and while Australia is well positioned compared to many other countries, we are proceeding into the unknown here.

It’s pleasing to see that many of us have kept our fitness up, both in the physical and virtual cycling worlds. As we have found, riding alone, or in very small groups, is great, but there is something missing from the larger group rides.

Currently, groups of up to ten cyclists are permitted to ride together. Whilst, in South Australia, this was always the case, just because something is legal, doesn’t mean it is a good idea. The BG took a conservative approach to both protect ourselves in the face of many unknowns and to assist in ensuring that cyclists weren’t seen as an even worse public enemy than normal.

We propose to continue this approach, however, are targeting 31 May 2020 as our first scheduled group ride.

Initially, a few things will change, with the rides only being published on WhatsApp, people being required to confirm their attendance to manage numbers, a checklist to determine that you are fit and healthy to participate and Aldo and I will be keeping a written list of all attendees each week.

If you are not on WhatsApp, text or call Aldo or me, and we’ll get you hooked up.

Anyway, this weekend looks amazing, so get out there and enjoy it.

We look forward to seeing you back in uniform in a couple of weeks’ time.

SUNDAY IS BG DIY

Hi All

It’s a hard message to write, but we have agreed that the only appropriate action in the circumstances is to put BG group rides into hiatus.

Subject to any changes to restrictions imposed between now and Sunday, we encourage all BG to head out for a solo ride, post it on Strava and/or share details here.

Take it easy, this is not a time to be coming off and needing a response from our health system.

It sadly appears that there are going to be some very challenging times ahead for us. Please look after yourselves and your loved ones.

As we have seen, the WhatsApp group is often active, so keep on using it to stay connected.

There will be a time when we’ll be a in position to post a group ride again. Hopefully not even too far into the future.

We look forward to seeing everyone’s efforts on Sunday afternoon.

SUNDAY IS HILLS SOMETHINGOROTHER

Hi All

It’s interesting times, isn’t it.

The BG brains trust has been considering what to do in our current circumstances, and have decided that we will proceed with a ride on Sunday.

As always, no one is forced to come, so use your judgement.

We would ask that anyone who is unwell, has been around other persons who are unwell or has been overseas or in close contact with persons who have returned from overseas refrain from attending.

While it would appear that the risk associated with an outdoor activity is low, it is obviously not zero.

A few changes to BG standard BG procedure:
  • We’ll be riding single file, where we would normally ride two-abreast to achieve 1.5 metre separation;
  • Coffee will be outside and we’ll wave at each other from a distance;
  • No touching other peoples equipment;
  • No hand shaking, bottom touching, hugging or kissing.

Other than that, it will be business as usual.

Meet in the city at 7.30 am

Meet at the Tower at 8.00 am.

Route will be determined on the day based on how people feel, but will likely start with Nortons and the ranges.

Stay safe.

See you Sunday.

Righto all... It's time for some stimulation.

Not cash handouts or tax breaks. A different kind of broken.

So Sunday will be Beach via Anzac Highway.

To jazz things up, after a LOOOOONNNGGGG hiatus, it is the return of the BG ITT.

As we head north, we'll cut across at Semaphore to Victoria Road, and stop at the oval. Each BG will then time their effort from there to the end of the sprint at Outer Harbour.

SUNDAY IS PAIN LIVES HERE

Good Evening All

I trust you are all watching the great Poo Ticket Panic of 2020 with great amusement.

This Sunday was supposed to be the Guzej speshul stage, however the Dan has decamped to Japan to moisten his ring on the multifunctional pan, so is unavailable for lead-out duties. Actually, I think he might just be skiing and drinking... but he still wont be available for lead-out duties.

All is not lost, and PLH it is. As I mentioned a few weeks ago, there is five Sundays in March, and our epic ride on the last Sunday will be the PLH pretzel, viz:

To get the legs ready for that, this Sunday we'll do the Swampy PLH, with coffee at Uraidla.

SUNDAY IS OUTER HARBOUR VIA ANZAC HIGHWAY

Happy Wednesday one and all...

This Sunday is Outer Harbour via Anzac Highway.

After a smashing effort in the hills, where a great turnout added in excess of 1500vm to their tallies, the Cudlee Cafe set a new record for how long it can take to get an (albeit very good) coffee, and Aldo, still on 1 1/2 legs, smashed corkscrew and then told the rest of us we were going up, not down, Montecture, we are back to the flatlands.

Route is here:

SUNDAY IS THE REVERSE CUDLEE CREEK CORKSCREW MONTACUTE RETURN

Righto team.

It's that time of the summer where the form is pretty good and the climbing legs are there (or thereabouts). We were scheduled for a Meadows Loop this Sunday, but we did that a couple of weeks ago, so instead, we are going to do a loop that we debuted just before Christmas, the reverse Cudlee Corker Monty.

Now before I hear any complaints, I was thinking we could turn this into a psychopathic PLH pretzel, where after completing Monty, we do the ranges again for a regular PLH. Really, it's not that hard is it???

I mapped it on Strava to see that it wasn't so bad, and here it is:
