BG Christmas Eve Ride – Pain Lives Here

BG Christmas Eve Ride – Pain Lives Here

Merry Christmas BG’s  Sunday is Christmas Eve so in recognition of the limited leave pass windows let’s do  Pain Lives Here as it gets us home early.  Weather looks meh! But sunny and dry.

Route:  Tower, Nortons, Ashton, Basket Range, Forrest Range, Deviation Rd, Greenhill Rd

Coffee and Sausage Rolls at Uraidla

As its Christmas Eve I wont be able to indulge in Sausage Rolls but I am sure I will find something nice.

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Port Rd – No Excuses Club ride

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Port Rd – No Excuses Club ride

Yes, I know the weather forecast for Sunday says, 27 degrees light winds. Given the weather forecast is so nice and we haven’t ridden flats for a while we will try to do the No Excuses loop this week.

Meet: In the City, Hindmarsh square

Time: 7:30 am

Route: Outer Harbor via Port Rd. Esplanade, Military, Seaview Rd

Coffee: At Glenelg

As Sunday week is Christmas Eve, I will schedule the original BG Ride for that one unless someone has a better idea.

Sunday Ride 10/1 – Outer Harbor via Port Rd – No Excuses Club ride

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Port Rd – No Excuses Club ride

Yes, I know the weather forecast for Sunday says, “Rain Bomb” and used words like severe but mine is not reason why, mine is to write the ride blog post. Also, as it’s the BOM its equally likely to be calm and sunny. Given the weather forecast I will schedule a standard Outer Harbor No excuse ride with a standard Glenelg coffee stops as I know seats under a roof are available there.

Weather Call: 6:45am

Meet: In the City, Hindmarsh square

Time: 7:30 am

Route: Outer Harbor via Port Rd. Esplanade, Military, Seaview Rd

Coffee: At Glenelg

I did set up a BG Zwift discord, but it was only used once. I may dust it off.

Sunday Ride 4/12 – BG XMAS Party - Lenswood/Fox Creek Loop – with Bailouts

A Very Bastardi Christmas to you all

This Sunday is the Christmas Show ride and as usual we have done a calculation or the average BG Beer, Wine, Seafood, Turkey, Mince pie and Ham consumption for next 33 days and frankly its scary. So we have set a ride to make sure you have lots of credit in the calorie bank. So, before we all go into a month of eating and drinking far too much here is the pre-emptive calorie burn ride.

Weather looks perfect for a change. 27 degrees, light winds

Like every Christmas we set the Full Monty for this ride and then sanity prevails. We will do the Norton’s, Lenswood, Cudlee Creek loop.

NO CITY MEET. Early start so we won’t be rushing as beer doesn’t start until 11:30am

Meet at the Tower Hotel at 7:30 am for a leisurely departure

Route: Norton’s, Ashton, Basket Range, Forest Range, Lenswood, Fox Creek (downhill)

Cudlee Creek ETA 9:45 am. A quick coffee at Cudlee Creek. We should depart Cudlee Creek no later than 10:30am

Back: Then back down the Gorge, Stradbroke Rd, Glen Stuart Rd and back to the Tower.

The Monty: If anyone is feeling frisky and wants to go up the Corkscrew and complete the Full Monty go for it.

Lunch: I have booked a large table under Aldo for 12pm although the lady taking the booking confessed to being dyslexic so it may be under Also. We are aiming to reach the Tower for Christmas Lunch by 11:30 am so we can have a beer first. Kitchen opens at 12pm

If you are not riding, we would still like to see you all for a Christmas catch up.

Sunday Ride – Southern Hills Loop 26/11

Sunday Ride – Southern Hills Loop

This Sundays Ride is the Southern Hills Loop with a notable change. We are taking the other exit from the park and avoiding Saddlehill rd.  There is still some climbing but it isn’t as much of a leg breaker. The rain should have passed by them and we are looking at a cloudy 21 degrees. Note the change in meeting point to avoid the city and the race.

Meet: Unley Soldiers Memorial Gardens / Unley Shopping Center

Time: 7:30am

Route: Unley Rd, Belair Rd, Windy Point, Regroup at the BP, Into the Park, Valley Rd, Melville Gully rd (not Saddlehill), Stuart Valley Rd, Upper, right onto Stuart Valley rd, right onto Longview rd (regroup), Bradbury (regroup),  Bradbury Rd to Mylor

Coffee at Mylor

Return1: Aldgate Valley Rd, Mt Barker Rd, Carey Gully Rd, Uraidla, home via Nortons

Return 2: Aldgate Valley Rd, Mt Barker Rd, Stirling, Ayers Hill Rd, Crafers, Piccadilly Rd, home via Nortons

It’s the Christmas Show next Sunday (where did the year go) so we will finalise plans for that at coffee.

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Anzac Highway coffee at Semaphore

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Anzac Highway coffee at Semaphore

It’s a beach ride this week as the Adelaide Rally is in the Hills and the City will have road closures next week. The weather looks great Sunny with light winds.  This is Outer Harbor with an early stop for Coffee.

Meet: In the City, Hindmarsh square

Time: 7:30 am

Route: Outer Harbor via Anzac Hwy. Seaview Rd, Esplanade, Military, Lady Gowrie

Coffee: At Semaphore or North Haven (Jason any recommendations?)

Return: Negotiated at Coffee

We haven’t stopped in Semaphore for coffee for a very long time, so I am unsure of Coffee shops.

Things also continue to change post covid. Following the news on Wiggle, RGT and a few small brands so I got a letter telling me GCN+ is shutting down and I will get a refund. GCN parent Warner Brothers is consolidating everything into Discovery+

Sunday Ride 16/09 – Cudlee Creek out and back

Sunday Ride 16/09 – Cudlee Creek out and back

Scheduling is a bit fraught this month with the Adelaide Rally and the Velo so we have scheduled a Cudlee Creek out and back so no tough climbs to worry about.

Meet: Tower Hotel at 7:30am (NOTE: The Early Start)

Route: Tower, Glen Stuart Rd, Morilata Rd, Stadbroke rd, Gorge Rd, Cudlee Creek

Coffee and Cake: Cuddle Creek

Easy Return: Out and back

Hard Return: Fox Creek

This month’s schedule has around events while trying to end up with a good ride for the Christmas show. I have also had a chance to work on the ride guide. For discussion this week I have sketched out the possible TDU week rides.

TDU Preliminary rides

We have done some preliminary planing for TDU week for discussion Sunday

Saturday 13th

TDU Classic

Earl of Aberdeen or Tour Village Pub and the watch the race.

Sunday 14th

BG Ride

Light Beach ride via Port Road, Commercial Road, Military Road to Glenelg.

Tuesday 16th

Barossa Valley circuit

Into the Barossa via the Gorge, Williamstown – Camp somewhere near Bethany with Partners driving out supplies, home via the bike track it’s an ugly route but it does save the legs.

Wednesday 17th

Norwood to Lobethal

The best day to chase them on a bike. Up to Uraidla or better Deviation Rd to watch them go through, then use the reverse the pain route through to Fox Creek to watch them go up the hill 3 times, return via Gorge. I predict a million others on that route.

Thursday 18th

Tea Tree Gully

A bit of trouble to see them today. Best I can suggest is out to Whispering Wall and the across to Williamstown and then home.

Friday 19th

Murray Bridge-Port Elliot

The only practical ride is the Super Epic to Strathalbyn. I suggest this is a miss for a ride and will be a driving picnic day.

Saturday 20th

Willunga

Down to the beach and then through to Willunga Hill. Route to be determined, but to combine road and bike track and allow for meeting driving family at McLaren Vale or Willunga.

Sunday 21st

Mt Lofty

Uraidla via Lofty bowls club picnic like last year. – Maybe an alternate option given getting through Lofty was a pain last year that we go via Nortons, Woods Hill and Summertown?

Friday, November 3, 2023

Sundays Ride is a No Excuses Hills Ride

Sundays Ride is a No Excuses Hills Ride

We had really good numbers last week for the beach ride and as we want to keep that up we will make this week a No Excuses Hills Ride. To limit the vertical metres for those lacking fitness we will do the Turf and Surf ride. The weather looks like a cracker. 25 degrees and 20kph winds. This ride has the possibility of dual coffee shop ride depending on how people feel so a sausage roll for breakfast at Uraidla is an optional extra.

Meet: 7:30am at the Tower Hotel Carpark

Turf Ride: Nortons, Ashton, Mt Lofty, Bollards, Bike Track, Cross Roads, Glenelg, Henley Beach

Turf Coffee extension option: Basket Range Rd to Uraidla Bakery

Surf Coffee: Joe’s Kiosk or Cibo at Henley

Surf Ride: Henley Beach Rd, City

The Ride guide is under way so I hope to publish soon.

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor out and back

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor out and back

Okay so having failed this ride once due to weather we will try again. As a reminder Café Veloce Dad (Nonno) who could produce 100 coffees in 5 minutes and get them all perfect has sold the business. The new owners can’t make a decent coffee and the carrot cake was stale so the BG declare Veloce Café Glenelg deconsecrated.

This Sundays ride will be a modified Beach out and back to Outer Harbor to accommodate an interim coffee stop at Scala bakery. The weather looks good for Sunday 24 degrees.

Meet: Hindmarsh Square 7:30 am

Route: City, Port Rd, Victoria Parade, Outer Harbor, Esplanade, Military Rd, Seaview Rd, West Beach

Coffee at Scala Bakery West Beach as at least the carrot cake will be edible.

Return Seaview Rd, Military Rd, Esplanade, Outer Harbor, Victoria Parade, Port Rd, City

Sunday Ride 22/10/23 - Montecute Loop

Sunday Ride – 22/10/23 – Montecute Loop

This Sunday’s weather looks good partly , 19 degrees. This weekend is the Bay to Birdwood so while the old car procession is up chain of ponds experience has taught to stay away from that side of the hills. So, we will stick to the hills face with multiple escape routes.

Meet: 7:30am at the Tower Hotel

Route: Magill Rd, Glen Stuart Rd, Morilata Rd, Stradbroke Rd, Montecute Rd

First Regroup / Escape Route: Top of CorkScrew

Route: Montecute Rd, Marble Hill Rd, Ashton

Second Regroup / Escape Route: Ashton

Route: Ashton, Basket Range, Basket Range Rd, Uralidla

Excruciating slow Coffee and a fast Sausage Roll: Uraidla

Return: Via Lofty, Mt Osmond or Escape down Nortons

On top of all this I still haven’t done a ride guide so I am planning by reusing last year’s guide at the moment.

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor out and back

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor out and back

As you all know Café Veloce Dad (Nonno) who could produce 100 coffees in 5 minutes and get them all perfect has sold the business. We gave the new owners a few visits and unfortunately the BG now declare Veloce Café Glenelg deconsecrated.

As such this Sundays ride will be a modified Beach out and back to Outer Harbor to accommodate an interim coffee shop. The weather has also intervened and looks ordinary for Sunday so it will be a weather call this Sunday.

  • Weather Call: 6:45 am via WhatsApp
  • Meet: Hindmarsh Square 7:30 am
  • Route: City, Port Rd, Victoria Parade, Outer Harbor, Esplanade, Military Rd, Seaview Rd, West Beach
  • Coffee at Scala Bakery West Beach as at least the carrot cake will be edible.
  • Return Seaview Rd, Military Rd, Esplanade, Outer Harbor, Victoria Parade, Port Rd, City

The BG Café subcommittee, i.e. Dan, has been tasked with selecting a new Café for beach rides. We wish him luck.

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Port Rd – No Excuses Club ride

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Port Rd – No Excuses Club ride

Yes I know I said it would be hills. I have changed my mind for a couple of reasons. It is the No Excuse ride week, it’s a long weekend and mainly because I haven’t done a ride plan beyond next week. The weather looks good Partly Cloudy and 21 degress. So, I expect to see everyone out.

Meet: In the City, Hindmarsh square

Time: 7:30 am

Route: Outer Harbor via Port Rd. Esplanade, Military, Seaview Rd

Coffee: At Glenelg

Looks like we are in for warmer weather with Sunday bucking the trend. So I have looked up the BG hot weather policy and found two things. One was that the policy  was last used in February 2019 by Michael and that in 2017 we were getting numbers in the 20’s.  Sorry for the scheduling confusion I need to find an evening to sit with down with the almanac and a good bottle of red and draft a 18 month ride guide.

Sunday Ride 24/09 is Outer Harbor via Anzac Hwy

The weather report for Sunday looks great, 28 degrees with a Northly wind. A very typical spring day and an opportunity to air the new kit.

Meet: In the city

Time: 7:30 am

Route: Anzac Hwy, Military Rd, Seaview Rd, Military Rd, Esplanade, Outer Harbor, Return the same way.

Coffee at Glenelg

Return: Anzac Hwy

Sorry for the brief post this week. The only news is that TDU Challenge tour is definitely gone which is not really a surprise. We will catch up on Sunday and see what options we might do apart from Saturday and Sunday rides.

Sunday Ride 17/09 – Cudlee Creek to avoid the City Bay Fun Run

Transition out of Winter was a bit hard to schedule this year with the City-Bay on this weekend. Getting into an out of the city was a palaver last time we tried a flat route on a fun run day. So, its back-to-back hills however we have been gentle and picked Cudlee Creek so no tough climbs to worry about.

Meet: Tower Hotel at 7:30am (NOTE: The Early Start)

Route: Tower, Glen Stuart Rd, Morilata Rd, Stadbroke rd, Gorge Rd, Cudlee Creek

Coffee and Cake: Cuddle Creek

Easy Return: Out and back

Hard Return: Corkscrew Rd – Montacute Rd

BG Business Matters

23-24 Ride Guide: The current ride guide expires in October so its feedback time before I start to compile the 23-24 ride guide. Please be gentle on me.

2024 TDU: Okay the Challenge tour “seems” to have been replaced by a series of guided bike rides. If that’s the case, I think we may organise a couple of extra BG Rides. Current plans have us on the Willunga pilgrimage on Saturday and in the Hills Sunday.

Sunday Ride – Pain Lives Here

We are now out of Winter so back to the normal schedule for this Sunday with Pain Lives Here.  Weather is sunny with light winds but it will be chilly in the hills so rug up.

We have not been getting anyone in the city for the hills rides so we will set a start time the Tower Hotel only which gives us an earlier return. Please reply if you’re intending to ride.

Meet: 7:30 am at the Tower

Route:  Tower, Nortons, Ashton, Basket Range, Forrest Range, Deviation Rd, Greenhill Rd

Coffee at Uraidla

The weather is improving so hopefully we will see you Sunday.

Friday, September 1, 2023

Sunday Ride – Beach (Bower Rd) via Port Rd – Fathers Day – Welcome To Spring

Sunday Ride – Beach (Bower Rd) via Port Rd – Fathers Day – Welcome To Spring

This Sunday is Fathers Day so for those with a leave pass we will do a short ride down to Bower Rd rather than Outer Harbor. This should get everyone home for Lunch with time to spare. The forecast for Sunday morning looks good and it is the first Sunday of the month it’s the No Excuses ride. It looks like we are coming into some good spring weather. Please Note the 7:30am start

Meet: In the City at 7:30am

Route: Bower Rd via Port Rd, Military, Seaview Rd

Coffee: At Glenelg

For those who decided not to ride over winter well its not winter any more.

I got a welcome to spring from a Magpie on the river.

Pain is Weakness leaving the Body.

Sunday Ride – Montecute Training Loop

Sunday Ride – Montecute Training Loop

This Sundays weather looks really good. Partly Cloudy, so no sunburn, 17 degrees, so cool so you don’t sweat too much, and light winds so no pushing into a breeze. This means two things. Firstly, no weather call phew! Second, according to the ruling at the meeting of the ride setting subcommittee three weeks ago we will be reporting for Spring Training. That means short Hills. We will stick to the hills face with multiple escape routes for those lacking fitness or carrying winter kilos.

Meet: 8:00 am in the City or 8:30 at the Tower Hotel

Route: Magill Rd, Glen Stuart Rd, Morilata Rd, Stradbroke Rd, Montecute Rd

First Regroup / Escape Route: Top of CorkScrew

Route: Montecute Rd, Marble Hill Rd, Ashton

Second Regroup / Escape Route: Ashton

Route: Ashton, Basket Range, Basket Range Rd, Uralidla

Excruciating slow Coffee and a fast Sausage Roll: Uraidla

Return: Via Nortons, Via Lofty

On the cycling front a work colleague left on Thursday riding Mt Gambier to Geelong as part of gradually, over many years, riding Australia furthest point East-West and only a few 100km short of furthest North-South on the mainland. They are almost done after this one.

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Port Rd

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Port Rd

The weather looks a bit ordinary but still ridable, so I will schedule a weather call for the morning. I was hoping to do a short hills ride but I can testify that its damp up there.

Weather Call: 7:00 am

Meet: In the City, Hindmarsh square

Time: 8:00 am

Route: Outer Harbor via Port Rd. Esplanade, Military, Seaview Rd

Coffee: At Glenelg

Sorry for the late post. Yesterday got a bit hectic.

Sundays Ride is Outer Harbor via Anzac Hwy

Sundays Ride is Outer Harbor via Anzac Hwy

The weather report for Sunday morning looks okay at the moment, 16 degrees with light winds. Saturday looks a bit average so I will book a weather call for Sunday in case it doesn’t clear up.

Weather Call 7:00am

Meet: In the city

Time: 8:00 am

Route: Anzac Hwy, Military Rd, Seaview Rd, Military Rd, Esplanade, Outer Harbor, Return the same way.

Coffee at Glenelg

Return: Anzac Hwy

Last week allowed for some organizational discussions for Spring, TDU and Summer. We will plan to do two rides TDU weekend. On Saturday we will pilgrimage down to Willunga hill with the current plan being via the Bike track and Seaford train station. We will stay flexible in case a better transit option appears. On Sunday will repeat what we did this year and ride up to Uraidla as that worked well.

Friday, August 4, 2023

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Port Rd – No Excuses Club ride - Sunday 6th

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Port Rd – No Excuses Club ride

As this Sunday is the first Sunday of the Month and the weather looks good 15 degrees, Partly Cloudy and Light Winds it’s the No Excuses ride. So, I expect to see everyone out.

The weather looks so nice in fact I am not scheduling a weather call.

Meet: In the City, Hindmarsh square

Time: 8:00 am

Route: Outer Harbor via Port Rd. Esplanade, Military, Seaview Rd

Coffee: At Glenelg

Funny this was the same weather forecast as the last No Excuses ride which made typing easy.  Any day I can avoid a weather call is a good day.

Sunday Ride – Short Beach – Hallett Cove

Sunday Ride – Short Beach – Hallett Cove

The weather for Sunday looks dry if a bit breezy. We will do the short ride down to Hallett Cove. It’s Hugh’s least favourite ride but it does offer the opportunity to check out Brians new abode.

Weather Call: 7:00 am

Meet in the City at 8:00am

Route: City, ANZAC Hwy, Esplanade, Wheatland St, Kuri Parade, Brandon Tce, The Cove and Return

Coffee at Glenelg

Return via Anzac Hwy

Normally at this time of year we can see the Tour Down Under program and know what the Challenge Tour is. This year its silence and lots of empty "event" slots. The Friday stage starts in Murray Bridge so probably is not the Challenge stage. I suspect no Challenge Tour this year. That said both Saturday (Willunga) and Sunday (Mt Lofty) look like good days for BG Pilgrimages. Lets discuss Sunday.

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Anzac Hwy return via Port Rd (Reverse the Excuses)

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Anzac Hwy return via Port Rd (Reverse the Excuses)

The weather on Sunday will be a fine, 15 degrees, light winds and foggy. So we will try to do last weeks ride. Bring a fog light and a snack as coffee will be late on this one. It’s been 5-6 years since we did this ride.

Meet in the City: 8:00am

Route: Anzac Hwy, Seaview Rd, Military Rd, Esplanade, Outer Harbor, Sprint Points X 10,000

Long Stop at Outer Harbor

Return: Victoria Parade or Esplanade depending upon wind, Port Rd, City (Grenfell St), Parade

Coffee at Norwood

I have been flat out so tour watching for me will be on catch-up. Make sure you have your privacy circles set on Strava and we will see you on Sunday

Friday, July 7, 2023

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Anzac Hwy return via Port Rd (Reverse the Excuses)

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Anzac Hwy return via Port Rd (Reverse the Excuses)

The weather on Sunday will either be fine and dry, or complete custard. I really can’t tell from the three separate weather apps I have been consulting since last year when my weather calls became an issue. So, with a nervous twitch already developing it’s a weather call for this Sunday.  Either way the wind will WNW so a return down Port Rd will be welcome. Bring a snack as coffee will be late on this one. It’s been 5-6 years since we did this ride. If the wind is a factor, we will reroute in the morning.

Weather Call: 7:00am

Meet in the City: 8:00am

Route: Anzac Hwy, Seaview Rd, Military Rd, Esplanade, Outer Harbor, Sprint Points X 10,000

Long Stop at Outer Harbor

Return: Victoria Parade or Esplanade depending upon wind, Port Rd, City (Grenfell St), Parade

Coffee at Norward

The tour has been great to watch so far. I saw my prediction of Jai making it to Paris in yellow evaporate in an epic performance by Pogacar but at least he was there for a day.  Anyway, hopefully the weather holds, and we will see you all Sunday.

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Port Rd – No Excuses Club ride

*Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Port Rd – No Excuses Club ride*

As this Sunday is the first Sunday of the Month and the weather looks good 15 degrees, Partly Cloudy and Light Winds it’s the No Excuses ride. So, I expect to see everyone out.

The weather looks so nice in fact I am not scheduling a weather call.

Meet: In the City, Hindmarsh square

Time: 8:00 am

Route: Outer Harbor via Port Rd. Esplanade, Military, Seaview Rd

Coffee: At Glenelg

There is lots to discuss this week with the Tour starting on Saturday night, Zwift announcing a climbing portal and the TDU announcing its routes. The Tour looks like a great route this year. As for Zwift you can ride all the mountains of the Tour in the freezing cold confines of your garage this year.  The ICT crew will have to ride a few of them, or we will have to listen to William the White.

Cote de Trebiac—3.4 km at 5.8%

Col des Aravis—4.4 km at 6%

Col d’Aspin—12 km at 6.5%

Puy de Dome—10.5 km at 8%

Cote de Domancy—2.6km at 8.6%

Cote de Pike—2 km at 10%

Col du Platzerwasel—7.1km at 8.4%

Col du Tourmalet—16.9 km at 7.4%

We can also hear how a little wind caused Warren to make excuses last week.

Sunday Ride – The BG Original

*Sunday Ride – The BG Original*

This week will do the Original BG Ride as scheduled by the four original riders one dark July day.  The weather forecast for Sunday looks less than ordinary at the time of writing. In the hope of getting a window this week this ride is short, and coffee is closer to home for most people.

Outer Harbor via Anzac Hwy.

Weather Call: 7:00am via WhatsApp

Meet: 8:00 am in the City

Route: Anzac Hwy, Military Rd, Seaview Rd, Military Rd, U-Turn at Bower Rd, Return the same way, Turn at Henley Beach Rd.

Coffee at Norwood, Buongiorno’s if no other suggestions

Last week’s ride was relatively dry just cold.

Sunday Ride – Short Beach – Hallett Cove

Sunday Ride – Short Beach – Hallett Cove

If you can work the Sunday weather forecast out, you are doing better than me. The best I can tell at this point is we will have decent window to get a ride in however home early is a prudent move. Hence I am setting the short ride.

Meet in the City at 8:00am

Weather Call: 7:00 am

Route: City, ANZAC Hwy, Esplanade, Wheatland St, Kuri Parade, Brandon Tce, The Cove and Return

Coffee at Glenelg

In other news for the cyclist who already has all the Zwift has introduced custom controls. You can even turn and brake……what will they think of next. https://zwiftinsider.com/play-launch/

Sundays Ride is Outer Harbor via Anzac Hwy

*Sundays Ride is Outer Harbor via Anzac Hwy*

Surprisingly the weather report for Sunday looks better than okay. No rain, 18 degrees, cloudy. Light winds becoming northeasterly 15 to 20 km/h during the evening. In line with the winter schedule, I will book a flat ride. If people want to try hills, we can decide in the city in the morning but as I was test driving a car on Thursday, I can testify that it will be damp up there.

*Meet:* In the city

*Time:* 8:00 am

*Route*: Anzac Hwy, Military Rd, Seaview Rd, Military Rd, Esplanade, Outer Harbor, Return the same way.

*Coffee* at Glenelg (or Norwood if we think the weather will be an issue)

*Return*: Anzac Hwy

Looks like a great chance to get a ride in so I hope to see you Sunday. If not enjoy the long weekend.

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Port Rd – Club Ride – No Excuses

Welcome to Winter. I know it seemed to start early this year and it feels like I just packed the thermals away. We are now swapping to the Winter Schedule so its flat beach rides with Hills limited to days when we are sure that sun will be shining. Note that the start time now moves to 8am.

The forecast for Sunday morning looks dry in the morning but we will still make a weather call.

Weather Call: 7:30am

Meet: In the City at 8:00am

Route: Outer Harbor via Port Rd. Esplanade, Military, Seaview Rd

Coffee: At Glenelg

Hope to see you all out Sunday. Remember Winter work means less pain in spring and

*Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Anzac Hwy*

This ride is usually scheduled as hills as it’s the last ride prior to switching to the Winter Schedule. However, the weather forecast for Sunday looks ordinary. In the hope of getting a window this week I have made an executive decision and set a flat beach ride. I am scheduling a weather call.

Outer Harbor via Anzac Hwy.

*This Sundays Ride is Cudlee Creek*

*This Sundays Ride is Cudlee Creek*

We have wandered way off the Ride Guide again and this was originally scheduled as last week’s ride.  We will head out to Cudlee Creek to enjoy Babette’s cake. Cudlee Creek has a return option to suit everyone.

The weather looks okay on current forecast.

Meet: 7:30am in the City or 8:00am at the Tower Hotel

Route:  City, Parade, Tower Hotel, Glen Stuart Rd, Morilata Rd, Stadbroke rd, Gorge Rd, Cudlee Creek

Coffee and Cake: Cuddle Creek

Easy Return: Out and back

Hard Return: Fox Creek

The one thing for sure is we will have better weather than the Giro de Italia.

Sunday’s ride is the shorter beach ride, Outer Harbor via Port Rd. As it is Mothers Day (I triple checked) and people may need to get back this route offers lots of early escapes. The weather looks like a cracker at the time of writing Sunny, 23 degrees and light winds.

Meet: 7:30 am in the City

Route: City, Port Rd, Outer Harbor, Glenelg

Coffee at Glenelg

I guess the lessons from the first week of the Giro is to confirm the BG’s long held aversion to white knicks, torrential rain and stray dogs. Mind you it has to the first time I have seen a sprinter hit the barriers and bounce back onto the road rubber side down.  Be good to your Mum’s. Amoreinfinito!

Sunday Ride - Cudlee Creek - Daylight Savings Ends

This Sundays Ride is Cudlee Creek

We are a bit off the Ride Guide this year.  So we will head out to Cudlee Creek this week to avoid a double Hahndorf. There is less climbing and the cake is far superior. As usual for Cudlee Creek there is a return option to suit everyone.

Remember Daylight Savings ends this weekend so our start time is an hour after dawn instead of 5 minutes before first light and you get an extra hours sleep. So no excuses.

The weather looks perfect Sunny 22 and light winds.

Meet: 7:30am in the City or 8:00am at the Tower Hotel

Route:  City, Parade, Tower Hotel, Glen Stuart Rd, Morilata Rd, Stadbroke rd, Gorge Rd, Cudlee Creek

Coffee and Cake: Cuddle Creek

Easy Return: Out and back

Hard Return: Fox Creek

Enjoy the ride. It will be a 8 weeks before I can get back on the bike.

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Anzac Hwy

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Anzac Hwy

This is probably the hardest ride of the year to wake up for as sunrise is at 7:21am as it’s the week before daylight savings ends. To make it easy on everyone this week is a flat beach ride. Outer Harbor via Anzac Hwy.

The weather situation is a bit unclear at this moment. I will decide if a weather call is required on Saturday night.  I am already getting the yips at the mere thought.

Meet: 7:30 am in the City

Route: Anzac Hwy, Military Rd, Seaview Rd, Military Rd, Esplanade, Outer Harbor, Return the same way

Coffee at Glenelg (or Norwood is we think the weather will be an issue)

Return: Anzac Hwy

Hopefully we will see everyone out on Sunday. It was great last weekend as ran into Frank, Dave and few other old time BG’s at Uraidla.

Sunday Ride – Beach – Outer Harbor via Port Road

Sunday Ride – Beach – Outer Harbor via Port Road

We had a great ride last week with 9 riders tacking the Montacute loop shedding riders a fairly much every escape route. By consensus it was a good route so I will now substitute that ride for the Ranges ride on occasion this year. We also met with almost the same number of familiar faces at Uraidla coffee.  It was great to catch up.

Today’s weather is a stinker but fortunately Sunday will be a mild 25 with normal winds so we can avoid all the complexity associated with the BG hot weather policy. Sunday is a flat beach ride.

Meet: 7:30am in the City (Hindmarsh Square)

Route: City, Port Rd, Victoria Tce, Outer Harbour, Esplanade, Military Rd

Coffee at Glenelg

Return ANZAC hwy

Stay cool and stay hydrated. I suspect I will have a twinged back on Sunday so business class for me.

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Anzac hwy – the long (beach) route

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Anzac hwy – the long (beach) route

A long beach ride for this Sunday with good weather, 25 degrees and moderate winds, forecast. So, while not what we would normally expect mid-February it will be a great day for a ride.

Meet: 7:30am in the City

Route: City, Anzac hwy, Military Road, Esplanade, Outer Harbor, return

Coffee: At Glenelg

Home: via Anzac Hwy

In general news this week. We are proceeding with the new kit design with special thanks to Steve and it’s looking good. We will keep everyone posted as we proceed.

As of Wednesday, despite all efforts to kill the conversation, route selection/walking on the TDU challenge ride is still a live issue. I will be carrying a red-card on Sunday. Not saying, just saying.

Sunday Ride – Beach Ride – Outer Harbor via Port Rd – Post TDU Club Ride

Sunday Ride – Beach Ride – Outer Harbor via Port Rd – Post TDU Club Ride

For some strange reason that I can’t quite put my finger on I find myself craving a nice flat beach ride.  It’s a week early for the Club ride but that’s the way the energy bar crumbles. Forecast is 26 degrees and mild winds.

Meet: 7:30 am in the City

Route: City, Port Rd, Victoria Tce, Outer Harbor, Esplanade, Military Rd, Glenelg

Coffee at Glenelg.

Home options to be discussed at coffee.

BG Admin Notes for this week.

We declare that "discussions" of who did long / short / walk / eyeballed the podium are now over but we can give still Brian grief over the undeclared left turn at the toll gate. See you Sunday

Sunday Ride - TDU recon

 Sunday Ride - TDU recon

TDU Week is upon us. So heaps of riding next week. We were meant to do a reconnaissance ride for the TDU finale viewing last year but it was crap weather. So this Sunday we will be doing a single lap of the finishing stage trying to scope out a location or location for best viewing on Sunday week. The primary issue that needs to be the focus of our attention is the location of the Esky. The weather looks good 28 degrees.

Meet: 7:30 am is the City, 8:30 am at the Bollards

Route: Bollards to Lofty, Summertown, Uraidla, Rangeview, Carey Gully rd, Mt Barker Rd at Bridgewater, Aldgate,  Pomona Rd, Gould Rd, Old Mt Barker Rd, Piccadilly Rd, Crafers, Mt Lofty

Coffee: Once the lap is done we will ride through to Uraidla for Coffee and a pork sausage roll.

Home: I suggest we either complete the lap or home via Montecute or whatever route makes sense.

Sunday 8/10 - Club ride

 Happy New Year BG’s

The first ride of the New Year is a No Excuses club ride. The weather looks great for the first outing of 2023 but it will be hot. Hence the hot weather policy early start has been decided for this week. Also, as TDU is almost upon us there is an extension on this ride for those, like me, who need the kilometers.

Meet: 7:00 am in the City

Route: Outer Harbor via Port Rd

Coffee in Glenelg

TDU Training Route: Glenelg, Cross Rd, Tollgate, Lofty, Home

The items on the agenda for Coffee are

  1. TDU week
  2. Brian telling us how much help 300w is throwing 22kg of Carbon, Steel and Lithium up Norton Summit
  3. Broken Hill
