CYCLOCROSS IN ADL!!!

Cyclocross (CX) is on in Adelaide this winter! PACC are organising two three race series this winter season to be held in the park lands! It's going to be a hell time - so amped on this news! Thanks to PACC for putting it together already putting together a ghetto single speed cross bike out spare parts!

If you want to get involved and don't hold a current CA race licence you can get a three day club membership with PACC for the series instead of buying a full race licence for the year.

All manner of bikes will be welcome to enter - must have two brakes to be legal, a legal helmet (AUS standards). So dust off the Mountain Bike your original BMX, make a hybrid mud ripping beast or just bring what ever you've got!

Should be good viewing for spectators too! CX is about the crowd so if your not getting involved bring a few brews a cowbell and get your lungs in to top gear yelling at mad bastards!

If you don't know what CX is, basically it's similar to a cross country steeple chase running race but done on a modified road bike, its run like a crit so an 1hr of pain is the standard race. So there is hurdles and steep climbs and obstacles you have to dismount for and run carrying your bike, and importantly it will get real muddy and there will be crashes!

SUNDAY CRITERIUMS

The NCC Crits are on again Sundays which means they will clash with BG Sun Rides. Bills-e will be organising the Sun rides and will elaborate on the program leading into Coast 2 Coast, post coming later this week.

Coast to coast clashes with the State Criterium Championships @ Whitmore Sq on Sunday March the 6th. This is a great day of racing with graded crits on a tight but smooth course around the square and is great for spectators with the full course in view. Graded Crits + Championship race and a Wheel Race. The Wheel Race is awesome, it’s a 3 lap handicap sprint race made up of the top 6 riders from each graded crit, all racing at once. You start track style clipped in being held at your handicap and when the gun goes you just have to give it to the bike for 2-3 laps (depends on your handicap) and try to hold off the scratch starters. The finish is usually close. I recommend every one giving this day a go - great for spectating - interesting course, and everyone can have a crack @ getting in the Wheel Race. In 08 they held a non qualifiers wheel race for those not in the top 6.

Reg Park Sun Crits – Nominate on the day like Vic Park. Regency is a good course, a bit tighter then Vic park but similar in the way it really is a course of two straights. Corners are a little more technical and the pack is more single file through them, so tends to stretch out more than Vic Park, and races often open up a bit more in my experience though the pack sprint usually prevails in the mid grades I’ve raced the last two years. Not much of a spectators course so I’d leave the loved ones at home – no toilets, or much to sit on or shade, and usually no food or drink available (bring your own everything). FS

CSA announced the Northern Expressway Cup this weekend and entries are now open. This may be your only opportunity to ride the silky smooth surface of the Expressway in 47 km handicap race which is sure to be a hard and fast race set through the flattest, windiest, most exposed place on the Adelaide plains! Should be a unique race on 100% closed roads thanks to CSA and DTEI - now that’s tax money well spent! FS

VIC PARK CRITS

The first round of Vic Park Crits have been confirmed, kicking off on Saturday September 4^th, and I’m proposing a BG social on the day, where we get the crew together for a lunch in the park, watch some good SA racing and support our fellow BG in the opening hit out of the summer season. More details to follow, but for now pencil in lunch in the Victoria Park on Sat 4^th of September.
