Sunday Ride 4/12 – BG XMAS Party - Lenswood/Fox Creek Loop – with Bailouts

A Very Bastardi Christmas to you all

This Sunday is the Christmas Show ride and as usual we have done a calculation or the average BG Beer, Wine, Seafood, Turkey, Mince pie and Ham consumption for next 33 days and frankly its scary. So we have set a ride to make sure you have lots of credit in the calorie bank. So, before we all go into a month of eating and drinking far too much here is the pre-emptive calorie burn ride.

Weather looks perfect for a change. 27 degrees, light winds

Like every Christmas we set the Full Monty for this ride and then sanity prevails. We will do the Norton’s, Lenswood, Cudlee Creek loop.

NO CITY MEET. Early start so we won’t be rushing as beer doesn’t start until 11:30am

Meet at the Tower Hotel at 7:30 am for a leisurely departure

Route: Norton’s, Ashton, Basket Range, Forest Range, Lenswood, Fox Creek (downhill)

Cudlee Creek ETA 9:45 am. A quick coffee at Cudlee Creek. We should depart Cudlee Creek no later than 10:30am

Back: Then back down the Gorge, Stradbroke Rd, Glen Stuart Rd and back to the Tower.

The Monty: If anyone is feeling frisky and wants to go up the Corkscrew and complete the Full Monty go for it.

Lunch: I have booked a large table under Aldo for 12pm although the lady taking the booking confessed to being dyslexic so it may be under Also. We are aiming to reach the Tower for Christmas Lunch by 11:30 am so we can have a beer first. Kitchen opens at 12pm

If you are not riding, we would still like to see you all for a Christmas catch up.

Sunday Ride – Southern Hills Loop 26/11

Sunday Ride – Southern Hills Loop

This Sundays Ride is the Southern Hills Loop with a notable change. We are taking the other exit from the park and avoiding Saddlehill rd.  There is still some climbing but it isn’t as much of a leg breaker. The rain should have passed by them and we are looking at a cloudy 21 degrees. Note the change in meeting point to avoid the city and the race.

Meet: Unley Soldiers Memorial Gardens / Unley Shopping Center

Time: 7:30am

Route: Unley Rd, Belair Rd, Windy Point, Regroup at the BP, Into the Park, Valley Rd, Melville Gully rd (not Saddlehill), Stuart Valley Rd, Upper, right onto Stuart Valley rd, right onto Longview rd (regroup), Bradbury (regroup),  Bradbury Rd to Mylor

Coffee at Mylor

Return1: Aldgate Valley Rd, Mt Barker Rd, Carey Gully Rd, Uraidla, home via Nortons

Return 2: Aldgate Valley Rd, Mt Barker Rd, Stirling, Ayers Hill Rd, Crafers, Piccadilly Rd, home via Nortons

It’s the Christmas Show next Sunday (where did the year go) so we will finalise plans for that at coffee.

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Anzac Highway coffee at Semaphore

Sunday Ride – Outer Harbor via Anzac Highway coffee at Semaphore

It’s a beach ride this week as the Adelaide Rally is in the Hills and the City will have road closures next week. The weather looks great Sunny with light winds.  This is Outer Harbor with an early stop for Coffee.

Meet: In the City, Hindmarsh square

Time: 7:30 am

Route: Outer Harbor via Anzac Hwy. Seaview Rd, Esplanade, Military, Lady Gowrie

Coffee: At Semaphore or North Haven (Jason any recommendations?)

Return: Negotiated at Coffee

We haven’t stopped in Semaphore for coffee for a very long time, so I am unsure of Coffee shops.

Things also continue to change post covid. Following the news on Wiggle, RGT and a few small brands so I got a letter telling me GCN+ is shutting down and I will get a refund. GCN parent Warner Brothers is consolidating everything into Discovery+

Sunday Ride 16/09 – Cudlee Creek out and back

Sunday Ride 16/09 – Cudlee Creek out and back

Scheduling is a bit fraught this month with the Adelaide Rally and the Velo so we have scheduled a Cudlee Creek out and back so no tough climbs to worry about.

Meet: Tower Hotel at 7:30am (NOTE: The Early Start)

Route: Tower, Glen Stuart Rd, Morilata Rd, Stadbroke rd, Gorge Rd, Cudlee Creek

Coffee and Cake: Cuddle Creek

Easy Return: Out and back

Hard Return: Fox Creek

This month’s schedule has around events while trying to end up with a good ride for the Christmas show. I have also had a chance to work on the ride guide. For discussion this week I have sketched out the possible TDU week rides.

TDU Preliminary rides

We have done some preliminary planing for TDU week for discussion Sunday

Saturday 13th

TDU Classic

Earl of Aberdeen or Tour Village Pub and the watch the race.

Sunday 14th

BG Ride

Light Beach ride via Port Road, Commercial Road, Military Road to Glenelg.

Tuesday 16th

Barossa Valley circuit

Into the Barossa via the Gorge, Williamstown – Camp somewhere near Bethany with Partners driving out supplies, home via the bike track it’s an ugly route but it does save the legs.

Wednesday 17th

Norwood to Lobethal

The best day to chase them on a bike. Up to Uraidla or better Deviation Rd to watch them go through, then use the reverse the pain route through to Fox Creek to watch them go up the hill 3 times, return via Gorge. I predict a million others on that route.

Thursday 18th

Tea Tree Gully

A bit of trouble to see them today. Best I can suggest is out to Whispering Wall and the across to Williamstown and then home.

Friday 19th

Murray Bridge-Port Elliot

The only practical ride is the Super Epic to Strathalbyn. I suggest this is a miss for a ride and will be a driving picnic day.

Saturday 20th

Willunga

Down to the beach and then through to Willunga Hill. Route to be determined, but to combine road and bike track and allow for meeting driving family at McLaren Vale or Willunga.

Sunday 21st

Mt Lofty

Uraidla via Lofty bowls club picnic like last year. – Maybe an alternate option given getting through Lofty was a pain last year that we go via Nortons, Woods Hill and Summertown?

Sundays Ride is a No Excuses Hills Ride

Sundays Ride is a No Excuses Hills Ride

We had really good numbers last week for the beach ride and as we want to keep that up we will make this week a No Excuses Hills Ride. To limit the vertical metres for those lacking fitness we will do the Turf and Surf ride. The weather looks like a cracker. 25 degrees and 20kph winds. This ride has the possibility of dual coffee shop ride depending on how people feel so a sausage roll for breakfast at Uraidla is an optional extra.

Meet: 7:30am at the Tower Hotel Carpark

Turf Ride: Nortons, Ashton, Mt Lofty, Bollards, Bike Track, Cross Roads, Glenelg, Henley Beach

Turf Coffee extension option: Basket Range Rd to Uraidla Bakery

Surf Coffee: Joe’s Kiosk or Cibo at Henley

Surf Ride: Henley Beach Rd, City

The Ride guide is under way so I hope to publish soon.
