SUN RIDE 31/7 - MEADOWS LOOP

SUNDAY RIDE

One of Brian's favourite rides this week, and with forecast fine conditions would be a good one to test out the legs on a bit longer ride. I'm thinking 9am at the BP servo for those that want a head start. As per the last few winter hills rides the aim will be to stick together, with regular regroups at the tops of hills so everyone stays involved.

Start 8:00am at Hindmarsh Square - Unley Road - Windy Point - Main Rd, Belair - Coromandel Pde, Blackwood - Murrays Hill Rd, Coromandel Valley - Main Rd, Chandlers Hill - Clarendon Rd - Clarendon - Kangarilla Rd - Kangarilla - Dashwood Gully Rd - Meadows (coffee and cake at Bakery) - Battunga Rd - Echunga - Aldgate/Strath Rd - Mylor - L onto Stock Rd then Aldgate Valley Rd to Aldgate - Mt Barker Rd, Stirling - R onto Pomona Rd - L onto Old Mt Barker Road - L at monument onto Piccadilly Rd, Crafers - thru roundabout onto Old Freeway course back to City.

Approximate distance: 100km subject to where you live.

Sunday ride map link

This is a great ride with some challenging long climbs and long flat sections. It is a good hitout for the winter and it would be beneficial for all to participate. See you all on Sunday morning.

In typical Wilson fashion, I stayed up long enough to see him start and then fell asleep before the first time check. It didn't matter, cuddles got it done, when he needed to.

So will Julia follow Bob Hawke, and announce the public holiday?

SUN RIDE - HILLS

Meet City @ 8:00 am or

Tollgate @ 8.30am or

Bollards @ 9:00am

So as to make the ride smooth and minimise the wait at the top of the freeway, please choose the above meeting option that gets you to the bollards at the top of the old Freeway climb by 9:00am.

We'll avoid the mossy Aldgate Valley Road on the way out by heading down the coast to coast route for a while.

Old Freeway - Stirling - Mylor - Hanhdorf (Coffee).

Long route: Balhannah - Greenhill Rd - Lofty - Old Freeway - City.

Short route: Mylor - Aldgate Valley Rd - Sterling - Old Freeway - City- City.

I make no promises about my attendance given a planned big night Saturday. However, I'd like to think a little Cadel inspiration will see me out there Sunday morning. And, I do agree Frank, Cadel wins this week by the length of a straight. Looks like with a good team around him, he may now be a bloody good chance!

CADEL RESPECT - NUFF SAID!

Look at Cadels face! "Hell no bitch - I won" Photos via Steephill Tv

Cadel showed some of the biggest names in this years tour what power and sheer guts is - hitting the go button a long way from the line and hanging on with pure ozzie grunt! FS

TDF TTT

Today again we lucked it! After criss crossing the vendee country side we were pointed to a feild of hundreds of cars. then simply followed our noses and the TT bikes being ridden by mechanics on test rides to the teams prep areas. check out all the back stage happenings. Found a great spot in the shade, just behind the finish line, infront of a crepe store serving beer, infront of a large screen tv, plus the finishing podium for the presentations. Also happened to be next to the anti doping test quaters which was also interesting. Alas no Yellow for Cadel but good showing so far! Garmin were stoked on the win and the presentations were interesting to watch to see all the going on's that make the event. FS, KN, & WK

SUNDAY RIDE REVIEW

Flats, Flats and more flats....

Rides after big rain always tend to have one thing in common, flat tyres! today's ride was no different, with signs ominous early when Andy T picked one up along war memorial drive. North terrace through to Port Road for the beach runs from now on lads.

Gatesy had one heading into the outer harbour sprint, leaving a very close finish between myself, sam and Hugh. if i knew the finish line I'd be happier making the call, though I'm pretty sure it was relative newcomer Hugh. I suspect he won the next two sprints from Homberg, though I wasn't close enough to see the results.

Special mention must go to Michael, with an excellent chase down of Homburg along the foreshore heading to evida.

I claim the most spectacular puncture after getting sideways on one of the roundabouts on the way to Genelg, yet holding it together long enough not to stack, which is becoming all too familiar of late. The last puncture of the day went again to andy t again, probably less than 1km from his house.

Was great to see the Macolino brothers back from O/S and was a good solid hit out for those that made it out. For those hibernating in winter, its time to get back out before you can't keep up, I'm looking at you Mr. Kuss!!

I LOVE VENDEE

What a stage! Perched on the first bump of the tour on a little valley in the Vendee a small contigent of BG experienced the flare, and utter crazyness that is le Tour. scoped the night earlier we found a hill defned by camper vans and knew we hit the right spot. Shade tree for lunch 50km veiws through the Vendee, valley road to alert you to the on coming peleton, voila`! I've seen promo vehicles before @ the TDU but never at this scale, floats passing you at a foot s distance doing 70 km/h lobbing hordes of goods @ you. This went on for close too an hour till we realised the local farm men had set up a small tent city in which a 4m wide projection screen was braodcasting live footage in a paddoc on a hill in the middle of no ware - gold! The riders flew past in full splendour and spectacular speed only slowed by the hill for only an instant, the aura of the peleton took your breath away! FS

What an experience.......standing in a dusty ditch in the middle of rural France, waiting for hours for thirty second of cycling madness.........simple the best thing ever. WK

TOUR DE FRANCE - TIPPING

Thanks again to Gatesy for organising the Bastardi Tour de France tipping contest.

For those not on the emails check out the instructions and advice below:

Its that time again for another tipping comp.

I have set up a league again on the SBS website with the league name of bastardi and password grassi all lower case. Same rules seem to apply as last year, just check the scoring system to work put which riders to choose.

http://www.sbs.com.au/cyclingcentral/home/fantasy

Good luck and choose your riders carefully.

No riders seem to being showing great form yet, will Alberto "the butcher" be too tired from the Giro, will Andy's chain stay on in the important moments, will Cadel finally string his good form through July and can Mark "the Missile" Cavendish concrete on cycling instead of tweeting long enough too finally win the green jersey. Then there are the usual outsiders such as Basso, Wiggins, Sanchez, Van de Brocke etc fighting for top 5 placing. Should be a cracker of a race again.

Get your tips in ASAP and start watching from Saturday night…..
