The BOM has been consulted, and, in a shocking development, Sunday looks like a classic winter beach-ride. The weather is partly cloudy, 8 to 16 degrees, with a possible shower and Light winds. In other words it should be rideable with a light spray jacket in the jersey. However as its also the weather that produces stealth rain we will book a 7am weather call.

Route: City, Henley Beach Road, Henley Beach, Seaview Road, Military Road, Esplanade, Outer Harbor, then back along the coast to Semaphore.

The forecast for Sunday is looking, dare I say it, almost sensible: mostly sunny, and a cool 10-15 degrees at Mylor a moderate north-westerly. That is winter code for grab the chance to do some Hills while it is there. With a few BGs injured and some enjoying holidays where its warm. we will keep this one civilised and keep it short only going as far as Mylor.

Weather Call: 7:00 am probably not needed on current forecast.

Meet: 8:45 am at the Lofty Bollards, that’s the top of the hill.

Route: City, Lofty Bike Track, Mt Lofty Bollards, Old Mt Barker Rd, Mt Barker Rd, Aldgate Valley Rd, Mylor, River Rd.

Coffee: Mylor depending on consensus, pastry availability and how much whining is coming reserve bench.

Given we have people recently sewn shut, people away, and winter legs of uncertain legal status we are doing a short ride. That means numbers are looking on low side. So, I will break with BG Tradition and ask you to please confirm if you intend to ride. Hope to see you Sunday.

The Sunday forecast looks a bit bleak weather wise 15 degrees, Cloudy, Medium Winds. As Hugh is out for this week and we won’t have to listen to his objections to Hallet Cove will “Carpe Diem” and plan to do the short ride down to Hallett Cove via Henley Beach Road or Don Bradman Drive. We can call the route in the morning depending on the situation.   ANZAC Hwy still looks a bit too heavy with roadwork to book it in for a ride. Brian if we ride we expect you to be waiting at your front gate with a French press of coffee and croissants.

Ride out to a Position along Greenhill rd to watch 2 passages of the Pelton and somehow get lunch.

Depending upon timing given there are. Position the second viewing to ride through Lobethal, Cudlee to Corkscrew or Ashton, Montacute.

This week is the No Excuses ride and the weather for Sunday looks like dare I say it good after such a wet week. Unfortunately, my information is that ANZAC Hwy is a still a roadwork nightmare.

So, we repeat the OH loop again.

Weather is 15 degrees and light winds. No chance of rain. So, No Excuses, I expect to see everyone out. Brian and Steve this means you.

In local cycling news I got an email from the Epic Tour people saying there is no Epic this year. On the upside Hugh can’t be tempted by either the short route or a buffet lunch with a chilled rose. Apparently, the men’s and women’s TDU will be run concurrently. Hmm logistics. Anyway, we will be planning a BG TDU this year once its published.

Sundays Ride 14/06 is a Possible Hills Ride

The forecast for this Sunday looks Sunny, cold at 9-14 degrees with light winds. This normally means a great day for BG winter vertical metres albeit on the shorter side for those lacking fitness. 

The issue we have in ride planning is that it looks like it will absolutely be tipping it down on Saturday like when Noah was a boy. This may make hills a little less desirable but possibly preferable to the navigating the contents of the gutters in the city.

So, the plan is to rock up to the Tower Hotel, look skywards, and if the Hills look do-able we will ride the Montecute loop rolling through to a sausage roll for breakfast at Uraidla.

It is now really is the last Sunday of the Month and the weather for Sunday looks like it may have a window with a low chance of rain. Unfortunately, as we mentioned last week, ANZAC Hwy is a bit of roadwork nightmare and has claimed Chris as a Victim. Get well soon Chris.

So, we will avoid ANZAC Hwy and do last week’s ride again but with a second coffee.

Weather is 17 degrees and gusty winds. The rain is supposed to clear by 5am, So, No Excuses, I expect to see everyone out.

Unfortunately, ANZAC Hwy is a bit of roadwork nightmare with all the tunnel works. So as I have been busy and without ANZAC Hwy route choice is a bit constrained, so we will do last week’s ride again but I will tack an extra bit on…..a second coffee.

 Weather is 18 degrees and moderate winds. The rain is supposed to clear by 7am, So, No Excuses, I expect to see everyone out.

I have consulted the BOM, WeatherZone and the Mystic Runes again this week after making a completely crap call last week. So instead, I poured a glass of red and watched the tubby Kiwi guy on the You-Tube. He says the BG’s have two possible activities this Sunday. 

We either get together and build an Ark 300X50X30 Cubits or alternatively we go for a bike ride packing a light spray jacket. My Kiwi weather savant tells me that despite all the weather warnings and dire predictions this system may still miss us entirely.

So, I will fire up the Kobayashi Maru simulator again and make a weather call this Sunday. 

We have set the original BG Ride and we will use the mark 1 eyeball to make a weather call. If it’s raining or the pillars of heaven are shaking, we will call it. As thunderstorms are rated as “likely” even if does miss us we think the hills will be unwise.

A short beach loop will allow us some freedom to change things if the weather allows.

I drove the Epic course today so will have some notes to discuss on Sunday. Some key ones

1.    The first true hill we hit is the bottom of Flagstaff Hill and this is a wall. Only a couple of hundred metres but it will be chaos

2.    The route is undulating even when descending

3.    Flagstaff Hill, Wickhams Hill, Gemmell Rd are the main climbs. With Wickhams being the hardest

4.    There are a couple of walls and pinches at Meadows, Church Hill Rd Echunga and Military Rd after the first pass through Nairne
