Montecute Hills Face 13/07

Montecute Hills Face 13/07

We had an excellent turn-out last Sunday so it was a dilemma to go Hills or Flat, but we stuck with the BG rule, if its fine in winter go hills. So at the risk of Brian managing back-to-back rides, we do the Montacute loop.  Sunday morning looks pleasant if cool 12 degrees according to the forecast with the bad weather coming in again next week.  I will book a weather call just in case and we will not be venturing too far from a roaring fire and a hot coffee so we should beat the forecast weather back down the hill.

 Weather Call: 7am

Meet up time: 8am at the Tower Hotel Car Park

Route: Tower, Glen Stuart Rd, Montecute Rd, regroup at Corkscrew intersection, Montecute Rd, regroup at metal yard, Ashton

Route to Uraidla decided at Ashton or we just have coffee there. Default is Uraidla via Collins Rd (the dippers)

 Coffee: Ashton or Uriadla

 Return: Via Norton Summit

We have a lot to discuss about the tour at coffee. In particular the complete failure on most of the peleton to keep the rubber side of the bike facing down. Remember to rug up for the morning as it’s a bit of a fridge in the valley.

Sunday Ride 06/07 – No Excuses REDUX – Outer Harbour via Port Rd

Sunday Ride 06/07 – No Excuses REDUX – Outer Harbour via Port Rd

This Sunday is the first Sunday of the Month and we will do the No Excuses Ride we didn't do last week due to not being able to see more than 3 car lengths.  The rain forecast all week seems to have disappeared from this afternoon's forecast which means No Excuses, I expect to see everyone out.

Weather Call: 7:00am

Meet: In the City, Hindmarsh square

Time: 8:00 am

Route: Outer Harbor via Port Rd. Esplanade, Military, Seaview Rd

Coffee: At Semaphore

The tour is upon us so we will have a bit to talk about.

Sunday Ride 29/06 – No Excuses – Outer Harbour via Port Rd

Sunday Ride 29/06 – No Excuses – Outer Harbour via Port Rd

This Sunday is the last Sunday of the Month but as the weather forecast for Sunday is so vague and non-committal, we have brought forward the No Excuses Ride.  I have less of a clue what the situation will actually be on Sunday than normal. Maybe no rain, maybe some rain,  maybe in the morning or maybe in the afternoon.  At least it will be Light winds and flat So, No Excuses, I expect to see everyone out.

Weather Call: 7:00am

Meet: In the City, Hindmarsh square

Time: 8:00 am

Route: Outer Harbor via Port Rd. Esplanade, Military, Seaview Rd

Coffee: At Semaphore

The tour is almost upon us so we will have a bit to talk about.

PS: I am attempting to waterproof a garage roof on Saturday so according to Murphy's Law that either means no rain for a month or a torrential downpour on Saturday night before it dries properly.

Sunday Ride 22/06 – Winter Hills

Sunday Ride 22/06 –  Winter Hills

Happy winter solstice BG’s. The good news is the days start getting longer next week. The bad news is it is still winter for a while.

That aside Sunday morning looks pleasant if cool according to the forecast with the bad weather coming in again next week.  As we have had a few days of Sun leading in it should be dry so we will do the BG Hills face ride on Sunday.

Remember to rug up for the morning as we probably won’t see much Sun until we pass the Corkscrew and it’s a bit of a fridge in the valley

Sunday Ride – Short Beach – Hallett Cove 15/06

Sunday Ride – Short Beach – Hallett Cove

The weather for Sunday looks dry-ish with light winds if cold. We haven’t done Hallett Cove in a long time so will do the short ride down to Hallett Cove and extend if we feel like it. It’s Hugh’s least favourite ride but as he is in the UK we should only hear muffled whining. Despite the forecast I don’t trust the BOM so will plan a weather call.

Weather Call: 7:00 am

Meet in the City at 8:00am

Route: City, ANZAC Hwy, Esplanade, Wheatland St, Kuri Parade, Brandon Tce, The Cove and Return

Coffee at Glenelg probably on the Broadway

Return via Anzac Hwy or Henley Beach Road if we want to extend.

A bit of cycling going on, but I haven’t been keeping up. So hopefully you can bring me up to date.

Sunday Ride 08/06 - The Depths aka the original BG Ride

Sunday Ride 08/06 - The Depths aka the original BG Ride

I have consulted the BOM and the long-range hour by hour forecast and the weather for Sunday looks as the French would say Merde.

Given the BOM’s track records on predicting rain lately we will set the original BG Ride and use the mark 1 eyeball to make a weather call.

 Weather Call: 7:00 am

Meet: 8:00 am in the City

Route: Anzac Hwy, Military Rd, U-Turn at Bower Rd and return

Coffee at Skala Bakery or Semaphore

 Return via Henley Beach Rd

Sorry for the short post. I am off to the Crows game.

Sunday Ride – The Ranges aka Pain Lives Here 01/06

Sunday is the first day of Winter and despite last weekends severe weather finally arriving about 1am Monday we have great riding so lets make the most of it. See you Sunday.

I am still only up to Stage 8 of the Giro. So everyone can bring me up to speed.

Sundays Ride is Cudlee Creek 11/05

Sundays Ride is Cudlee Creek 11/05

It’s the start of the Giro de Italia this weekend so as BG tradition dictates it’s a hills ride and its Cudlee Creek to enjoy some really good cake. Cudlee Creek has a return option to suit everyone.

The weather looks like low 20’s and calm winds on current forecast.

Meet: 7:30am at the Tower Hotel

Route:  City, Parade, Tower Hotel, Glen Stuart Rd, Morilata Rd, Stadbroke rd, Gorge Rd, Cudlee Creek

Coffee and Cake: Cuddle Creek

Easy Return: Out and back

Hard Return: Fox Creek

The Giro is straight into the Hills and Mountains but as per usual the big stuff is in the last week. As its the Giro there are lots of medium mountains before we get there. Should make good watching as Podacar is looking merely super human. As always I will try to teach everyone an Italian phrase that you had better never use in public.

Sunday Ride 16/03 – Short Beach

Sunday Ride 16/03 – Short Beach

I have consulted the BOM and the long-range hour by hour forecast and Sunday looks dodgy. However, we were meant to get 45mm and the 65mm in Mudgee and didn’t get a drop. Leura on the other hand started out foggy and then was just wet. So, you can’t trust the BOM.

We have set a short beach ride and l will update tomorrow based on the forecast. If it’s raining or the winds are too high we will call it. It’s meant to be Hills and if the weather gods smile we will decide in the morning.

Weather Call: 6:30 am

Meet: 7:30 am in the City

Flat Route Route: Anzac Hwy, Military Rd, Semaphore

Coffee at Semaphore

Return via Port Rd

Sunday Ride 17/01 – The Ranges

 Sunday Ride – The Ranges

TDU week is here so we will head to the Hills to give legs a final polish for the Adelaide Epic Ride.  Weather is Sunny 35 with moderate winds so freeze your bottles.

Meet: 7:30 am at the Tower

Route:  Tower, Nortons, Ashton, Basket Range, Forrest Range, Deviation Rd, Greenhill Rd

Coffee at Uraidla

We wont dawdle as I expect a sausage roll shortage and I don’t want to hear the whining if we have to settle for lentil pies.

Epic Ride Preliminary Arrangements

There doesn’t appear to be a huge amount of detail about the start. The FAQ’s say riders start from 6:00am and the strava map shows the start zone is on George St not the Parade proper. If that’s the case we will do what we have done previous years.

Forecast: 27 and moderate winds

Time: 5:30 am

Meet: Gather at the National Pharmacy

Regroup Points – Tentative

It’s a long ride so I suspect we will be breaking up. However here are some suggested regroup points.

Ashton as it will chaos at Nortons

Mt Lofty

Echunga 45 km  – I assume a rest stop is here

Mt Barker 75km

Lenswood 100km

Uraidla
