Have a happy and safe Christmas and New Year period, see you all on the road soon.

Sunday XMAS Beach Ride and break up
Due to the way Christmas and New Years day fall this year this will be the last Bastardi Ride for this year 2016. This week is a beach ride for our last ride of the year.
It's fair to say we have probably lost more Sundays to weather this year than most since the group started. So make the effort to get out and say merry Christmas and farewell 2016.
Meet: Hindmarsh Square in the City at 7:30 am
Ride: Port Road - Outer Harbor - Glenelg for coffee.

Sunday Ride - TDU Reconnaissance and Ride Report
Sunday Ride - TDU Reconnaissance
This Sundays ride will be Brian's TDU Reconnaissance. Brian hasn't decided on a route but as usual there will be lots of escape options for those that need to be home early.
Meet in the City at 7:30 am
The full TDU Route is here http://www.strava.com/routes/5684530
Sunday Ride Report - Riders on the Storm
Eight BG made no excuses and arrived for the club ride last Sunday. We had all checked the weather and figured it was slow moving and we would get to coffee at least before anything hit.
Suffice to say what started as Calm winds and Humid had developed into a significant but not scary headwind and humid by the time we reached Victoria Parade. Brian wasn't there but we didn't need to be told and started a pace line. Our pace line was thing of beauty, no shirkers, smooth and given the wind reasonably rapid. Brian would have dried a tear.
The pace line was functioning perfectly when about a kilometre from the first turn we were hit by a howling gale. The pace slowed but we kept it together working hard trying to get to everyone to the turn through alternate showers and dust.
We thought the turn would bring some relief, boy was that a mistake. When we took that slight left turn which is basically a turn from North to North West we were hit by 83 kph winds blowing from the NNW. In one sphincter clenching moment all eight of us shifted sideways and had to hang on to the bikes for dear life. The Pace Line was totally destroyed as everyone tried to get some separation. We know the wind speed because Mike Tilley checked the BOM website. Through some exceptional bike handling we all stayed upright .
However nothing stops the sprint for Outer Harbor glory although this one goes down as the slowest ever recorded with Mike Tilley taking it out while sprinting full pelt at 18 kph. You realise if it was calm he would have been doing 65 kph.
To say our trip back down the beach with the tail wind was rapid is the understatement of the century. I the "Captain Slow" of the BG was touching 50 kph at one point on Military Road while watching the rest of the group pull away.
Discretion is the better part of Valour, so we abandoned at Henley had coffee and rode home.

I am sorry to report that last Saturday Graeme came off his Bianchi and was taken to RAH via ambulance. Scans and XRays showed fractures in his right pelvis – opposite side to previously.

Sunday Ride - Cherry Gardens - road less travelled
This Sunday is a Roads less travelled series ride and was suggested by Dan.
We will head south to Windy Point, regroup at the service station then down main road to Cherry Gardens Rd, Ironbank Rd, Morgan Rd, Woolcook Rd, Longwood Rd, Bradbury Rd and through to Mylor for Coffee. Home via Lofty and Nortons.
Meet in the City at 7:30 am
These roads are really unfamiliar territory for me so i have made an attempt at mapping the route but will cede to more knowledgeable Bastardi.

SUNDAY RIDE - Corsa Dello Stivale
As communicated
earlier this month we have deferred the No Excuses ride until this weekend Sunday the 20th and will use the Ride to
support the St Clair Cup Criterium known as the “Corsa Dello Stivale”. As
we know from our rain soaked trial lap the St Clair development has created a
fantastic criterium circuit which AV Jenning has offered to host
the Cycling SA Super Series – Stage 6.
The BG No Excuses Ride will be on Sunday November 20th we will ride Anzac Hwy, Outer Harbor and then return via Port Road for Coffee at the St Clair village.

It’s called the “Race
of the Boot” because the circuit is boot shaped. However on the theory that
everything sounds sexier if it’s said in Italian it is known as ….

The Cycling SA Super Series – Stage 6 – AVJennings St Clair Cup Criterium known as the “Corsa Dello Stivale” event will be on Sunday, 20 November 2016 at St Clair on a 1.05km boot shaped course around the central park and waterways on St Clair Avenue.

All the major SA teams will be there (including Sam Web’s USG-Bike Station Racing Team) and young Bastardi Lewis and Elliot Walker will probably be racing in the Juniors (if included in the program).
The event is sponsored by AVJennings and we will be there to present prizes to the winners.
It is hoped that all the Bastardi Gruppetto can call in and enjoy some of the racing as part of the Sunday ride.
Sofies Ride
Last Sundays was meant
to be Sofie’s ride when we celebrate the birth on the 9 November 2012, Alf
Macolino & Chris Withams granddaughters Sophie & Sofie. As you know
they shout the group coffee and cake. Unfortunately last Sunday wasn’t fun in
the weather department and while we note some BG’s braved the conditions Alf
and myself though discretion the better part of valor.
Hence Sofie’s ride
will be this weekend.

BG NO EXCUSES Club Ride
I know we promised that the BG Club Ride would always be the first Sunday of the Month, always a beach Ride. Well one out of two isn't bad. As this Sunday is Amy's Ride we will not have the No Excuses beach ride. Alistair, our account manager, from Champion System came into my office today to run me through the samples of their new range of kit. The range has been split into three levels, and we can order from any level we wish. TECH (which is the base level and has similar kit to that we already have, PERFORMANCE (the mid tier with lighter fabrics, more panels and better grip systems) and APEX (the top tier both in $$$$ and quality). From my review of the kit, the APEX kit it up in quality with my Black Sheep Limited and Curore kit, so is very good. The PERFORMANCE knicks also looked very good value for the $139.00 price.

Heritage Round will be the Sunday October the 15th
Time to raid the a drawer full of cycling jersey and try to find one that still fits and has a bit on interest. I was criticised last year for not giving enough warning. So this year you have 2 weeks to get ready for the Heritage round. Note its Sunday week not next Sunday.
Heritage Round Rules
- Wear a jersey other than the BG jersey that invokes interest, envy or humor, or preferably all three
- Wear some other item of BG kit e.g. knicks, gloves, bandanna if possible. We are still a club
- Points will be added for being able to identity what the major sponsor actually does/makes and additional points if they are still in business
- Points will be deducted for a TDU challenge Jersey (an exception will be made for the rarely sighted 2004/2005 jerseys with double points if they still fit)
- Points will be added for matching socks
- Millions of Points will be deducted for muffin tops
- What the points means and what they are worth will be called at some random point on the road either by Brian or the road captain. Kinda like the sprints.

Aldi Bike week - Telescopic Repair stand
I like a lot of people have had a quick look around Aldi, especially with the snow equipment stories from Phil and Dan. Michael R noticed this and though he would make the group aware.
As well as sending private label groceries, each week Aldi have a limited stock of general merchandise items.
From their latest catalogue that bikes are there thing this week.
The one item that may be of significant interest is a telescopic clip bike repair stand for maintenance for $39.99.
https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-sat-24-september/saturday-detail-wk38/ps/p/bicycle-repair-stand/
If people want one, I would recommend being at your local store at opening time on Saturday morning, otherwise they will be waiting until next year.
PS there is also a tool kit and a floor pump

Tour of the Barossa
The final race in the 2016 Elite Teams Super Series is around the St Clair criterium course. As a result AV Jennings has a free entry in the Tour of the Barossa for a team of 4-6 riders.
The team is able to enter in all 3 days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) or just the Saturday and Sunday using a 2 Day Pass.
So Brian is looking to see if he can get at least 4 BG's to compete. If your'e interested you will need a CA racing licence or be willing to purchase a 3 race licence.
Please contact Brian or myself if your interested.
If we get a team together we may do a club pilgrimage to lend support.

MISSING
The BG's had three of the four founding 'God Fathers' at last Sundays fathers day beach ride. We were only missing one our Daddy's! Many speculated the circumstances of his absence and what excuse might potentially be offered. Some of the young blood even asked if this God Father really existed, but all agreed it would be great to ride with him again.
If you see this man please place him on a bicycle and point in the direction of Hindmarsh Sq on any given Sunday morning.
Incoming.....!!
Its that time of the year again
Still even that suicidal bird on the Norton's decent doesn't mean that cable ties in the Helmet are acceptable.
Do you really want to look like this, nuff said.

FATHERS DAY CLASSIC - BEACH CRUISE
The day we have to attend a lunch allegedly in your honor, at a location not of our choosing, to eat not our favorite meal. The day we receive gifts we neither wanted nor needed or could possibly be seen in public wearing. The day our favorite pass time of lounging on the couch drinking beers, watching TV, and having a nap all afternoon will defiantly no be on the agenda.
SO FARK IT! We'll be escaping the house to spent a few precious hours of OUR day doing our favorite hobby; riding, staring at our middle aged mates sweaty arse's, talking shit about nothing in particular.
Come for a beach run, have a brew and your favorite mid morning snack, before resuming your pre-arranged itinerary of celebratory Daddy day tasks.
