The Truth is out there.....somewhere
Sundays ride was enlightening as the BG Daddy's gave me a few Blog corrections. I am devastated.. I wanted to believe,
- Apparently Bower Road was only an aspirational goal on the first ride. They didn't even get close and only made it as far as the sewage works at Glenelg North. In their defense they claim it was hailing.
- The maximum number of Bastardi's ever to ride as a group, were we counted them, was 31. We were getting in the high 20's regularly when we first started
- We reckon we have had well over 45 riders through the group

Sunday Ride - Outer Harbor via Port Road
This Sunday is the first Sunday of the month however its not a No Excuses ride. That will be the 10th Anniversary ride on the 15th.

Bastardi Gruppeto - 10th Anniversary Club Ride
Born in the Depths of Winter from soft calves, too many
unearned latte’s and a little Cadel inspiration.
It was a cold dank July day 10 years ago when four blokes decided to go for a bike ride. That was the start of the Bastardi (Grassi) Gruppeto. If you had suggested to them that the riding group they started would clock up 10 years, 500 Sundays and a couple of laps of the planet of bike riding and camaraderie, they would have suggested you were a dick.
Over those 10 years riders have come and gone and our numbers have swelled and crashed with the fortunes of cycling generally. We have had men down but fortunately only very few. We have changed our name and our jersey but that hasn't stopped us winning more than a few races. The rides have gotten longer and the bikes slicker but the essence of the BG's has stayed the same; Enjoy your riding and don't be a dick!
I have consulted the BG daddy's, who in the spirit of not being dicks, can't recall exactly when the first ride occurred. The best I could get out of them was "the second weekend of the Tour de France we think, just make something up". So Sunday July the 15th it is.
The broadcast email was sent out early in the hopes that it can be distributed to past BG who may have fallen off the email list. If you can be so kind as to forward to anyone you know who has ridden with us in the past, that will be much appreciated. I will send out reminders over the next few weeks in the hopes we can get a few of the old faces out.

I haven't ridden in years
There are multiple bail out points for people who haven't ridden in a while on this route. e.g. Bower Road where we originally turned. We will all aim to return to Glenelg for Brunch/Extended Coffee at around 10:30 am

Coffee: Will be at Veloce Paninoteca on the Glenelg Marina. http://www.velocepaninoteca.com/ I am not sure Bastardi's do brunch. In any case the plan is to have a longer coffee stop than normal, have a chat and order something more substantial than a cannoli.

Sunday Ride - Hallett Cove
The Ride
This Sundays Ride is Scheduled out to Hallett Cove. Numbers have been down so just a reminder is that we are on the Winter Ride schedule and we will only do hills if the weather is very favorable.

Brian and Mike's stack one year Anniversary.
It's been a year since the accident and its great to see Brian riding again and still recovering. All the BG wish him the best and hope we don't have to go through that again.
BG 10 Year Anniversary
As you know the tenth Anniversary of the day that the four intrepid BG daddy's decided to take a winters bike ride to the Beach is almost upon us. I will publish details of our plans to celebrate via email shortly in the hope that people will contact people who have ridden with us in the past for a general catch up.
Just to get the Nostalgia really happening, here is the very first Blog post from Frank setting out the only BG club rule that really matters.

If you enjoy a good hit out on the bike and are after some company then you are welcome to join the BG.
The only policy is: any one is welcome aslong as you are not a dick! If you are a dick please don't try and come out with us, if your not sureif you are a dick or not, we will let you know pretty quickly.
Rides are conducted to include many differing skill levels and abilities and are designed to be inclusive (just no dicks!). We don't mind a bit of a race to stretch the legs, just at nominated points, and we even run handicap hill climbs so every one can have a crack!
Rides are around 50 - 100km with a mixture of hills and beach rides. Rides are done as a group with meeting points along the way to regroup, with a mix of abilities within the group.

Winter Ride Schedule Commences
The Winter ride schedule commences this weekend. All rides between now and the 19th of August will commence in the city and are scheduled as Beach rides. We will look at the weather when we meet in the morning and take advantage of any good weather window to do one of the nearer Hills loops.
