The Oz National team for the TDU (UNISA) was announced just before New Year’s and I’ve just caught up on the news. Great to see the team spear headed by local boy Luke Roberts, good to see the local get a ride after team Pegasus (AUS) collapsed leaving Roberts and many other great Australian cyclists including Robbie McEwen (since signed by Lance for Radio Shack) with out a contract for the 2011 season. Hopefully Roberts and the UNISA boys represent well in TDU and are able to secure a contract for the upcoming season. I know who I’ll be barracking for!!
"The team will be headed up by South Australian Olympic gold medallist Luke Roberts who finished fifth overall in the 2010 Santos Tour Down Under. Joining Roberts, who has ridden with Team UniSA-Australia five times previously including in its inaugural year (2001), will be Jonathan Cantwell, Wesley Sulzberger, Mitchell Docker and young talents Luke Durbridge and Michael Hepburn." Via Team UNISA site.
"The final starter will be decided following the Australian Open Road Championships, held in Ballarat, Victoria, January 6-11." via Cycling News
Also the first TDU teams are on the ground, with HTC & Ag2r arriving today, KN spotted the HTC boys (No cav) on Magill Rd this morning @ 8.30am - on route to Norton’s one assumes. Not bad after landing 1.5Hrs earlier, I guess when in ADL what else is there to do but enjoy some sensational riding in the ADL hills! Follow there lead and get out and about on the bike in the AM and I’m sure you'll get to see a team or two.
For Stockers who want more info on Lance, Cav who aren’t arriving with their teams ... see link here for more info and schedule for the rest of the teams @ TDU Site. FS
