Here is the 2017/18 Ride guide. Its sort of ontime this year and I would like to thank Michael Richardson for his help in compiling it. I swear scheduling the AFL is easier. I think we have jointly avoided any major clangers this year but a few sets of eyes reviewing it wont go astray.
We are keeping a few things that worked from last years ride guide:
- First Sunday of the month is the no excuses Beach Ride
- Roads Less travelled rides
What we are changing. We have continued to Schedule winter rides as either Beach or Foothills. However we recognise this didnt work all that well. Hence we will formalise our weather driven approach. A call will be made on the Friday before the ride. We will use any window of good weather to go into the hills with the ride selected from the standard close hills loops. All winter rides will start from the City to allow weather calls to be made on the Sunday Morning. Winter Rides are May 21st through to August the 20th
Whats new:
- Two new loops. One pioneered on the Roads less travelled. Stirling via Coromadel valley (minus the wrong turn) and a short sharp and shiny Winter hills loop Corkscrew, Cherry gardens, Norwood 55km
- 7:30 starts will start on the Fathers day weekend and precede Daylight savings itself starting
- We have scheduled Escort duty for the 1000k's for Kids riders on September 24th. We will do some fundraisers as well for Phil and Dan as well TBD.
- We know when we are defeated and have not scheduled a ride for Mothers day this year
- We will experiment with a few split bunch rides. A Fast group will head off on a Super Epic and the Slow group doing one of the standard loops with both Groups together for the first part of the ride
- We have taken the leads from other groups and pulled our TDU Reconnaissance ride forward into November to avoid the silly season. Depending on what it is we may pull it foward another week
- Given our dismal track record at organising lunch or pub crawls (0 from 2) or frankly anything other than coffee, we decided to go the masochistic route and have scheduled 3 lunch attempts this year (I haven't given up the pub crawl either)
- Associated with the KKK - Lobethal loop (Lunch in Norwood)
- Associated with a southerly (anticlockwise Meadows loop) (Lunch in Striling/Crafers Tavern/ Scenic Hotel)
- Associated with a standard Xmas beach Ride (Brunch rather than coffee and cake somewhere along the beach)
